• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

Jesus Christ has brought to my attention that apparently I have mood swings where I am fine one moment and next moment I am not. The cause of this Jesus Christ shown me is because of my alters all talking at the same time which causes confusion where some may be upset, sad, angry, all at the same time causing issues.

For the first time an alter, apparently child alters who were angry, told me a few weeks ago that "we (the alters) are in the midst of a storm."

Jesus Christ also showed me in dreams where I saw an alter in the form of a literal person emerging from me partially, not completely though, because that alter was still attached to me. Then in the other dream I saw another alter that injured me severely, to take away my life.

How do I start the process of integrating the alters? Psychiatrists in Jamaica are not equipped to deal with this, I have tried contacting psychiatrists from other countries and they always say that their schedule is full.

What do other people around you say?
If they confirm this week help with them.

Love is always the first step. I know it's disturbing to learn things that happened to (parts of) you and to learn things that alters were forced to do, and trained to do.

When alters reach out to you like they have recently to tell you they are in a storm.... that is a huge step for them... they are looking for help. Offer them acceptance, and ask them to describe the storm and how you can help them. Begin to share with them your love, and your faith in Christ... they may not be open to it right away, so be gentle and patient. Pray for them. Be sensitive to the Lord's invitations to spend time with Him, because He desires to minister to them.

What is an alter?
Alter personality as happens when a child under age 7 is subjected to severe ongoing trauma and the mind is shattered. Alter personalities develop in order to hold the traumatic memories so the front/primary person/ality can function normally without the burden of knowing about the trauma.

Waves,
I know from personal experience about healing from DID and having alters. My therapist has taught me to communicate with my alters and get them to talk to each other. Create safe rooms within myself. And many more techniques.

Here are some excellent resources on dealing with DID/alters:
The Haunted Self: Structural Dissociation and the Treatment of Chronic Traumatization (Hardcover) by Onno van der Hart

The Body Keeps the Score: Brain, Mind, and Body in the Healing of Trauma (Hardcover)
by Bessel A. van der Kolk

Coping With Trauma Related Dissociation: Skills Training For Patients and Therapists by Suzette Boon

I've read most of the second two books and they are excellent. Integration can only take place after the traumas are worked through.

You don't need a psychiatrist to work through DID. You need a "Trauma Specialist." This is someone who is trained as a therapist and has further training in trauma and it affects on the client and techniques to help them. Read about it on Psychology Today or just by doing some research online for, "Trauma Specialist." It's a field in its infancy and yet there are many great therapists out there with this specific training. Don't go to someone who says they can help with trauma. I went to 11, yes 11 therapists before I found my current therapist who is a Trauma Specialist. I've made more progress with her in 2 years, going on 3, than I did with my other therapists combined.

Most psychiatrists no longer do therapy so seeing one wouldn't help you. They are mostly pill pushers now unfortunately.
