Now if we never learned our lessons from HIV like not screening for it in blood transfusions and not properly sterilizing surgical and dental instruments, then it'll spread to populations that don't "deserve" it.. but, as of right now it's probably going to stick within groups of fornicators and drug users.

So if something different is happening in Europe, then Europe needs to investigate that.”

Monkeypox: Time to worry or one to ignore?

Monkeypox is a DNA virus so it does not mutate as rapidly as Covid or flu. Very early genetic analysis suggests the current cases are very closely related to forms of the virus seen in 2018 and 2019. It is too early to be sure, but for now there is no evidence this is a new mutant variant at play.

We know we're only seeing the tip of the iceberg as the cases being detected don't fit into a neat picture of this person passed it on to that person etc. Instead many of the cases appear unrelated, so there are missing links in a chain that seems to spread across Europe and beyond.

A recent massive superspreading event, in which large numbers of people gathered and caught monkeypox at the same venue such as a festival and then took it home to different countries, could explain the current situation.

The alternative explanation for so many unconnected people getting infected is if the virus has actually been bubbling along unnoticed for quite some time involving a lot of people.

Monkeypox outbreak linked to superspreader event at adult sauna

Enrique Ruiz Escudero, the region’s cabinet minister for health of the community, said on Friday that health officials had traced many of Spain’s 30 monkeypox cases to a single sauna in the capital.

Three cases in Belgium have also been linked to a large-scale fetish festival in Antwerp, according to organisers. The Darklands Festival warned people who attended four days of parties, starting on May 5, that authorities had linked the event to the country’s three confirmed cases.

Sources have told The Telegraph that an internationally advertised gay party in Spain is also being investigated as the root cause of the global monkeypox cases.

“The Public Health Department will carry out an even more detailed analysis...to control contagion, cut the chains of transmission and try to mitigate the transmission of this virus as much as possible,” Mr Escudero said, Reuters reported.

Israel on Friday reported its first suspected case of the rare monkeypox virus in a man who had recently returned from a trip to Western Europe.


Ichilov Hospital in Tel Aviv said a man in his 30s had been hospitalized with symptoms of the disease. He was reported to be in good condition and was being isolated and monitored.

globally. Later in the exercise, the scenario reveals

provisions and weak oversight. The exercise
scenario concludes with more than three billion
cases and 270 million fatalities globally. As part of
the scenario development process, NTI conducted
