Missouri Republicans Knowingly Backed an Alleged Child Sex Abuser | Washington Monthly

"On September 29th, the Kansas City Star published a shocking exposé detailing allegations of horrific abuse by Missouri House candidate Rick Roeber, a conservative pastor. Roeber is alleged to have engaged in a pattern of physical, psychological, and sexual abuse of his children, including two aged just 9 and 5 at the time. He is also alleged to have drowned puppies in a pond, an example of the psychological trauma and cruelty he apparently inflicted.

Despite the devastating allegations, Roeber nevertheless went on to win his election, defeating Democrat Chris Hager by just 301 votes in Missouri’s conservative-leaning 34th district."

Nice to see the "We voted for a politician, not a pastor" crowd seeing its mindset reach its logical conclusion...

...assuming, of course, this is the conclusion.

No, that's not what "mud slinging" is at all, no matter how much you dislike the report.

Certainly is, mudslinging is "make malicious or scandalous allegations about an opponent with the aim of damaging their reputation." The malicious/scandalous allegations have not been proven and were certainly intended to damage Missouri House candidate Rick Roeber's reputation. Game, set, match.

Sure, it's all just a smoke screen.

Missiouri lawmaker Rick Roeber resigns amid child abuse allegations

But last week, GOP leaders, including the ethics committee chair, told the Jackson County prosecutor they had “information that needs to be forwarded to the proper authorities in your jurisdiction,”

The allegations are not that he's a sexual abuser, but that he's an accused sexual abuser.

And he had indeed been accused -- by his own wife and children, no less. As for damage to his reputation, in the same GOP that embraced Moore, Gaetz, and of course, Donald... I'll leave that question to the philosophers.

Not that it matters, really: Roeber is yesterday's news -- or to be more specific, last week's news:

I, for one, won't weep for his expulsion.

LOL, you really don't know what mudslinging is, do you?

Where is the malice? How are his wife and children his "opponent" outside of the circumstance that he molested the kids?

Are you saying that if a man molests his children and then the children and wife end up reporting it, i.e. alleging it, then that is "mudslinging"?

I guess it was nothing but "mudslinging" when Osama Bin Laden was accused of masterminding the 9/11 terrorist attacks too, huh? LOL

    Come on, man!

That'll be reserved for his inevitable criminal trial. This is about whether or not the GOP wanted such a man as a member of their organization.

Perhaps you have no problems with him, but it seems the Missouri GOP didn't want him around anymore.

Go tell them why they made the wrong call.

I'm not so sure...they also appear to have voted for an anti-police Satanist for sheriff.

You might be shocked how many people just vote based on party affiliation and have no idea who they're voting for.

I have concerns for the Nevada GOP if they are struggling to find candidates that don't own brothels and are currently living. If that is the best they have to offer, maybe they should ask themselves why.

True -- but booting someone out for abominable behavior is derided as "cancel culture" on one side in particular...
