The key figure is Baruch Vainshelboim who claims affiliation with Stanford and other institutions. I have been informed by a current Stanford student that he is not in either the public directories or the private ones (which one must have a Stanford login to access).
The outright fraud that caused me to be contacted is the claim that this involves a 'Stanford Study'. That is a lie.
The 'research' cited actually appears good. Meaning it looks legitimate, but is not.
It is published in the journal Medical Hypotheses. That sounds good, but their mission is to "is to publish interesting theoretical papers.”. While Medical Hypothesesdoes have its own review system, it is “in accordance with the aims and scope of the journal, which is to publish radical new ideas” according to the editor-in-chief—meaning that it publishes work that includes plausible conjecture rather than provable fact."
