• CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Churches are the outposts of the Kingdom of God in this world. Our clergy are icons of Christ to us, just as we are icons of Christ to everyone we meet. The Divine Liturgy is heaven on earth. When possible, we use the best of the material world (for lack of a better term) for the Glory of God.

Well, we at least know the catholics are allowed to post Scripture :D
Seeing as the Roman church says they are in the millinnium, why do they need to celebrate the "Lord's supper"?

Well, don't you know, this forum is for DEBATING, which is argument. Which is a good thing.

And is so doing Rome followed in the footsteps of the Judaizers by adding conditions for salvation that are anti-Biblical and anti-Christ, which undermine the True Gospel of Christ, just as the Judaizers did by adding unneccessary conditions.

Not only did it distort the "nulla sallus" but also distorts and adds to the Gospel unneccessary conditions that turn it into "another gospel" as Paul said.

Sure the Lord after promising
to be with His Church till the end left it and ordained men who gave us a different one. The Church He created for 1500 years He gave a distorted one so everyone before 1500 would burn in Hell.:(

Augustine gives us the conditions.

"Whosoever shall have separated himself from the Catholic Church, no matter how praiseworthy such a person may fancy his life has been, yet for that one crime of having cut himself off from the unity of Christ he shall not have eternal life, but the wrath of God shall abide with him for ever." St.Augustine of Hippo ("Letter 141," c. early 5th century)

“The Catholic Church is the work of Divine Providence, achieved through the prophecies of the prophets, through the Incarnation and the teaching of Christ, through the journeys of the Apostles, through the suffering, the crosses, the blood and death of the martyrs, through the admirable lives of the saints…. When, then, we see so much help on God’s part, so much progress and so much fruit, shall we hesitate to bury ourselves in the bosom of that Church? For starting from the apostolic chair down through successions of bishops, even unto the open confession of all mankind, it has possessed the CROWN OF TEACHING AUTHORITY.” (emphasis mine) (Augustine, “The Advantage of Believing 35…392 A.D.)

SALVATION ONLY THROUGH THE CATHOLIC CHURCH (AUGUSTINE)
“A man cannot have salvation, except in the Catholic Church. Outside the Catholic Church he can have everything except salvation. He can have honor, he can have Sacraments, he can sing alleluia, he can answer amen, he can possess the gospel, he can have and preach faith in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit; but never except in the Catholic Church will he be able to find salvation.” (Augustine, Discourse to the People of the Church at Caesarea, A.D. 418)

In the early church there were 5 Equal Patriarchs holding Equal power heading their Jurisdiction. the Patriarch of Rome (Pope) held first among Equals. After the Schism, the Patriarch of Constantinople assumed the title.
So, what is the nature of this "first among equals?" Is he not like a priest guiding the group through a spiritual journey?

This really is the problem, I don't understand what could be considered Apostolic Authority and "first among equals" or Papal Primacy theory. The Pope is to be, after all, the servant of servants. We can surely leave jurisdictional issues aside for now (a matter or tradition or prudence?)

First among equals meant he acted as an arbiter in disputes and at councils held the chair of Honor. However, he held no special authority over the other Patriarchates. look at the EP today.

"The phrase "first among equals" is also used to describe the role of the Patriarch of Constantinople, who, as the Ecumenical Patriarch, is the first among all the bishop of the Eastern Orthodox Churches. He has no direct jurisdiction over the other patriarchs or the other autocephalous Orthodox churches but he alone enjoys the right of convening extraordinary synods consisting of them and/or their delegates to deal with ad hoc situations and has also convened well-attended Pan-Orthodox Synods in the last forty years. His title is an acknowledgement of his historic significance and of his privilege to serve as primary spokesman for the Eastern Orthodox Communion.."
