What I really don't understand is why the Protestants care so much what the Catholic church says or what the Pope says? You aren't a member so why care? Just pray for your salvation and the salvation of others.

Maybe you have not been taught the following, but we have:

Matthew 7;

Ah, yes, at very least he is a bishop of Peter's Apostolic See and must be respected and honored as such. Most Christians agree on this. How it is carried out is a matter that could use discussion.

In this way, we are discussing just how different the issues between the RC and EO Church and the RC and (Protestant) issues are. The difference is so profound, that in order to even discuss it, the Pope has to assert that the EO is a Church and the Protestant are ecclesiastic communities. That, I suppose, is a clear way of understating just how different the disagreements are in nature.

I'm not sure this the place to discuss geographical jurisdiction, Apostolic Authority, and mixed jurisdictions, as a matter of course, because I doubt our Protestant brother would comprehend the intricacies.
