Michigan woman sues over priest’s homily about son’s suicide at funeral

The mother of a Michigan teenager who killed himself is suing the Archdiocese of Detroit for alleged harm she suffered during his funeral when a priest questioned whether her son would go to heaven.

The lawsuit filed Thursday in Wayne County on behalf of the teen’s mother, Linda Hullibarger, names as defendants the archdiocese, Our Lady of Mount Carmel Parish and the Rev. Don LaCuesta.

I remember reading something about this months ago, was the funeral near the beginning of the year or even last year?

The article said it was Dec. 8, 2018.

Yeah I remember a lot of people rushing to bash the priest and then when more came out it was seen as an overblown issue

Back when it fiest blew up I found a transcript of the homily online, it was a model of Christian charity in truth. There was nothing in it that was at all offensive.

She is very angry and in grief but I think quite honestly, she is being unreasonable in this case.
