To empty your mind and relax in God's peace will always be better than fretting and worrying.

I wish I could seek God more instead of watch TV or read random internet stuff when tired. Resting with God can feel so good sometimes. I love to ask him questions too and he gently sends me into these amazing brain storms where I analyze things so much clearer.

I found myself at the proverbial crossroads of good vs bad mediation today. I chose good meditation and was blessed. I could have missed out on that blessing had i not chose the goodness of the Lord. How Good He is. Praise the Lord. Its like i found a refuge inside, and a treasure. Worldly people would not understand and might even laugh at me, buit i have found the Lord and His secret place.

This is a good basic video on the subject.

Many people do not know how to meditate or misinterpret what successful meditation even is. This video touches on some basic points

Meditation is a way of falling asleep while yet awake. It alters your state on mind. It can not solve your problems, only temporarily escape consciousness of their reality.

You want to be free of stress? Truth will make you free. Not nice sounding sermons. Not, doing good deeds. Truth. That, and only that... will eventually make one free of stress. After all.. truth crushes the lies that bring on stress... Pushing out one lie at a time.

I have no stress. Thats what i endured years ago but no more. I still however have hardships that you know nothing about. I like to meditate on peace when conflict comes my way, i call it faith and a gift from God.

Dont think that the meditation im referring to is bad, its just meditating on Gods peace. Its joyful, and whats wrong with that?

Philippians 4:8 Finally, brethren, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is [a]lovely, whatever is of good repute, if there is any excellence and if anything worthy of praise, dwell on these things.

Sorry.. I had you confused with another post.

    I was commenting about the video that appeared here;

    Meditation question.

Knowing how to skillfully think with knowledge gained by grace and empowered by grace is what produces peace. We should always be growing in grace and knowledge, so we can meditate upon God's Word. We are not to be like new worlders which is a secular attempt to induce a peace that can only be granted by the indwelling Holy Spirit.

I agree. Your quote from James 3:17 sums it up. That which is peaceful, loving comes from God. Plain and simple. That which is fearful, anxious, despair, comes from human fears and insecurities.

I like the meditation classes at the local Buddhist temple. They have a tradition of centuries of experience and offer good tips and technique, void of religious dogma.

At one time, I wanted to get into Kriya Yoga, which is just meditative yoga, but several things turned me off, mainly cost, secrecy and some thinly veiled cult like ritual that would not fly in other situations. And I have met no seemingly honest graduates of any such class or group.

Philippians 4:8 Finally, brethren, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is [a]lovely, whatever is of good repute, if there is any excellence and if anything worthy of praise, dwell on these things.[/QUOTE]

What came to mind is a most excellent book by Dr David Burns called FEELING GOOD: The New Mood Therapy. While Cognitive therapy has been around for decades, and many practitioners use self-hypnosis, a form of meditation to augment it, Burns sets out the basics in easy to understand, laymen's terms. While Philippians 4:8 tells us what it is, Burns tells us the HOW to get to that point. And his basic premise is HOW to dwell on those good things, which sadly, many people have trouble actually doing !
    There was a good book
Your Thoughts Can Change Your Life: The Twelve Essential Attitudes for Health, Harmony and Happiness
It was written by Unity Minister Donald Curtis and I had an autographed copy floating around at some point. It is hard to find and not cheap, but it focuses again on the idea of dwelling on that which is good, which comes from God, the "Spiritual gifts" which cast away anxiety and despair and all the negatives that go with them

So In regards to meditation, yes, it works fro many people to erase the anxiety, fear and allow focusing on that which is Peaceful and Loving. Hope that adds something good to your already insightful post.

    Note:

Jesus warned,,,,, a little leaven ruins the whole lump. Demons do not need religious dogma to draw souls so inclined away from the Way.

I have known Buddhists deeply involved with the spirits.

Why seek Satan's solution? God promises His peace. Why have you not found it.

Remember.. Satan quoted Scripture when he tempted Jesus.

Having Scripture to print does not prove anything. Obedience and a desire to be obedient to God's Word reveals a great deal about a person's encounter with God. Which spirit/Spirit holds preference?

That must be the worse description of meditation ever.

Then you tell me how meditation solves real problems in a real way...

The meditation lessons I have witnessed to was all about letting your mind go blank and being able to relax via concentration. Transcendental meditation was the big thing when I was propositioned. I also knew someone who was involved with Buddhism, and that one got involved with the demonic realm.

Anything that is not of God is demonic when it alleges to have answers to the human condition.... Even Tibetan monks, who meditate on a regular basis, can be heavily influenced by demonic activity.

    So what's new?
