I asked if taking legal prescription medications is okay from an Christian view and everyone including my Pastor says it's fine.

Okay not to get into the story of my life but I am getting out more which is difficult on its own.

So I attended a Church social outing last night. Most as Christians however they allowed unbelievers as was the service. At the small group we discussed the Bible. As we were talking one unbeliever said something like "choosing a religion is like deciding between Democrat or Republican just pick an f---ING side". Really in the church of all things. This is why I always hated to be around non believers.

As I said before that 4 letter word does not have to be directed to me but it caused me to backslided for 15 years. Was committed to a hospital for a few days made it worse and I have been on dozen medications because of violent outbursts after hearing it and/or seeing it.

So after that because of the new meds that are actually working as I did not storm out of the room I felt okay like I managed it because of medication and praying.

Still it is very hard but I decided I am not going to let idiots like that guy ruin my life where I don't socialize and go outside.

When I am hungry, I have food to eat. When I am thirsty, I have something to drink. When I am feeling ill, I take medicine to help me feel better.

There are plenty of good things in this world which enrich and improve our quality of life. I believe medication is one of them. There are many people and places in the world who do not have access to medicine, therefore it is something that I never take for granted.

I am reminded of the story of a man who was caught in rising floodwaters. A canoeist came to help him, as did a rescue helicopter, however the man was adamant that God would save him. When he arrived in heaven, he asked the Lord "why didn't you help me". The Lord replied "I sent you a canoe and a helicopter, but you never got in".

I believe that God can and does heal people through prayer, but He has provided us with a world of natural resources that can be used for our benefit.

What is the medicine you are taking for?

I was on prescription meds for a while and I'm now down to 15mg of only one medicine. Soon I'll be taking zero. Tbh I specifically asked for the reduction and to stop taking them because of my beliefs.

Personally, I don't think it's always the best avenue. Besides the initial effects of the medicine I was taking being positive, I think after a while they became pointless and caused a lot of weight gain (plus my overeating).

How long are you expecting to be on the medication?

My assistant in my Bible class was taking medicine for high blood pressure. He secretly decided to stop taking his medicine and live by faith. He had a stroke during my class and has been disabled ever since.

Take your medicine!

Yes, @Tony Ramirez whatever your medicine don't just abruptly stop taking it. I reduced mine gradually with a Doctor's permission and observation. I also had the necessary physical checks before the reduction started

What is the medicine you are taking for?
Seroquel 25mg "new medicine that is making me more social and reducing anxiety".
Prozac 10mg "reduced from 40mg as it made me over hyper which is why it was reduced and my psychologist added Seroquel'.

When I left the church I was on Zyprexa "terrible medicine that did nothing and made me gain weight" then I was on Risperdal "which gave me the opposite effect made me sleep less, more irritable, hearing that word made me go crazy even broke a ceiling fan and a smashed my hand in front of a glass door."

I am also maintaining my weight by eating less and walking every day weather permitting that I can. As when I walk Trinity Church services I have to walk to Park Slope. I am also going to at least see my medical doctor every few months to see if I get any side effects from increased cholesterol.

Ok, I was taking similar medicine. The medicine definitely takes the edge off the emotions etc but just as important - as you know - is the socialising and exposure to uncomfortable things. I hope things keep improving for you!

That's good. I'm reducing calories myself atm and I walk every morning (well, nearly every morning)

However I had a dream last night that horrible word made me more of a recluse where I never went out, gained weight, left God again backslide worse and basically gave up.

Now it bothers me more sleeping on it and that horrible dream I might not attend next week afraid that non-believer will be there. I will still attend Sunday service.

I expected that now low life to say something like "choosing a religion is like deciding between Democrat or Republican like choosing between Catholic, Muslim, Christian" not "pick a f---ing side" so it shocked me to disgust and I knew he was a non-believer most likely an Athiest. However the medication calmed me for now like Prozac did until I did have a violent outburst once at home when my mother said it on the phone when her friend mother was dying later calming she did not which I hate.

I hope that does not happen but what you don't understand is that word basically ruined my life. If it did not bother me like it did before I got mono at 16 years old I most likely would have been living on my own, yes I would have still had the Asperger's but I most likely would have had friends, school or working and most likely been even closer to God.

Update: I am attending next week I am not going to let non-believers ruin my faith like in the past. Please pray for me for strength and tolerance for one bad apple.

It will help you a lot if you write down words of affirmations and say them out loud every day. If negative word have such drastic effect on you, I suggest you get into a routine of saying positive words out loud, it will also have s resultant positive effect, God bless

Great idea! You could say scripture that brings you comfort, that reminds you of who you are in Christ, of His love.

Once I was so sick I had to take an antibiotic as nothing natural worked. I also take medicine for weak adrenals that nothing natural has helped enough. On the other hand, I have had very bad experiences with medicine, been misdiagnosed, treated for something I didn't have and so on. Many have reported similar experiences. I personally think the first approach should always be a natural one. Well, no, the first approach should always be to seek the Father. Then, as with me and others, He may well lead you to the right alternative, or even standard, health help.

Thanks but I tried the no medicine thing and it made me worse. It also did not help when I was on the wrong medicine with the wrong psychologist who just pushed "Paxel" and "Respodole".

Now I am on the right medicine as my current psychologist I have for a few years cares "started me with Prozac" and yes he is a a Christian in an clinic where you would not expect it again God's work so I trust what he gives me.
