Just a reminder there is no free lunch. Everything that is spent has to come from we the people. Take a close look at where the funds are going and it will be clear why the Reps and also Dems who want to get reelected will not back irresponsible spending. It is so much fun using the credit card but it is not so much fun when the bill needs to be paid at the end of the month.
Raise taxes on billionaires. They won capitalism. They have more money than they will need in this or any other lifetime.

And now you know why I’m doubtful. It’s not an infrastructure plan. It’s a socialism plan.
Biden and the Democratic establishment are capitalists.

I identify as a Socialist, and this plan isn't Socialism.

I get the impression from this response that you have a misunderstanding about what Socialism is or you have been terribly misinformed about the Democratic party platform.

The Democratic Party doesn't want workers to own the means of production, which is a pretty central tenant of Socialism.

He’s not against spending. If Biden wants it for infrastructure (which is really doubtful) he will compromise and listen to the 600 billion plan that McConnell has mentioned.

Nothing sums up Republican thinking better than this. Apparently despite winning the election and holding all both houses 'compromise' is for the Democrats to give up their own plans and just do what the Republicans want.

Do you even understand the concept of democracy? Because minority parties used to fully get this.

I thought Biden was all about unity and compromise.

I don't see the relevance of this to my observation that deficits suddenly start to matter once the GOP lost the White House.
I was just wondering when they started to be relevant to your side.

I know that. That’s why I brought it up.

Then clearly the Congressional Republicans need to put a better idea on the table than their previous one.

Do you really think the Republicans could put anything on the table that the Dems would go for?

I think so.

But if I'm selling a house for $400,000, and your best counter offer is only $60,000, we're not going to do business.

McConnell: No Senate Republicans will back Biden on $4T (msn.com)

Obstructionism in full force not even 4 months into Biden's presidency - I'm not surprised.

As I see it, they are worried that the money they are handed every year might be in part handed to someone else; that's on top of their worries that their special interest donors might not get their way over the interests of the people of the USA.

Standing in the way of what one sees as a bad idea is the only moral and ethical thing to do. When Democrats did that in relation to Trump you had no problem with it. Drop the obstruction meme as it is silly. You like Biden's ideas and they don't. If you didn't and they did, you would be cheering on any strategy that was used to oppose it. Everything you assume motivates the Republicans, the Republicans assume motivates the Democrats. From what I can tell both parties are and have been corrupted by their greed and lust for power and are totally in step with their financial backers.

I am for obstructing the demolition of the US economy by government spending irrational amounts of money for political patronage.
How is it you think the money is "for political patronage"? It's not. It's investment. You have to spend money to make money.

I think you need a refresher on what the word compromise means.

noun: compromise; plural noun: compromises
1. an agreement or settlement of a dispute that is reached by each side making concessions.

If the Democrats want $4t and the Republicans want $600b then how exactly is $600b a compromise?

And 4 TRILLION dollars in boondoggles means nothing to an observer like yourself? Shouldn't that be a factor, even if the bill has a nice name?

When Trump oversaw, but didn't cause, a 1 Trillion dollar increase in the national debt, the opposition party cried foul to high heavens, saying how it would bankrupt the country, place an impossible burden on our children, cause inflation and more.

But now, one bill in Congress that would be FOUR TIMES as powerful in all those categories is met with "anybody who doesn't go along is an 'obstructionist!'

:sigh:

Not sure why you're invoking the name of Donald long after he stopped being politically relevant, but fine, I'll play along.

When Trump oversaw, but didn't cause, a 1 Trillion dollar increase in the national debt, the opposition party cried foul to high heavens, saying how it would bankrupt the country, place an impossible burden on our children, cause inflation and more.

And what did we get from it besides a tax cut for the wealthy?

But now, one bill in Congress that would be FOUR TIMES as powerful in all those categories is met with "anybody who doesn't go along is an 'obstructionist!'

:sigh:

When he was relevant, Donald promised a massive investment in American infrastructure -- a promise he eventually bailed on. Biden is simply doing it right.

$1T for some magic beans vs $4T for things this country actually needs doesn't seem like a fair comparison.
