There are already hard bounds on the numbers.

The case fatality rate can be bounded by looking at very hard hit cities and confined populations (prisons & cruise ships).

At a minimum the CFR is around 0.5%.

That and monitoring the excess population deaths will upper bound the number of people who could have ever been infected.

In short, the right wing rumor that the disease is silently circulating and we're all going to look back on this as chicken littleism, is nonsense.

The supply to our hospitals is low because the STUPID HOSPITAL ADMINISTRATIONS didn't order them and stock up like they should have. It is not a role of the federal government to stock hospitals or keep other country's from buying products that our private businesses make

That is literally the role of the federal stockpile since there is zero market incentive to stockpile masks for a once in 100 year event.

And multiple other foreign governments are restricting exports of their own critical medical supplies.

You're right, it wasn't yet declared a pandemic....but the threat of a pandemic was already present. The travel ban was the *only* action taken by Trump. For the rest of February it was NOT a priority.
