I had to double-check a few books to be sure, but υπο with the genitive (-ο&#965 means "by" here, as usual (in the sense of "by an agent"). Only with the accusative does υπο mean "under."

The same thing came up in 8:24 (υπο των κυματων = by the waves) although, looking back, I see you had "under" there too.

I've learned something here -- I thought this construction was used primarily with people, but I see there are several cases where it applies to things considered as agents as well.

We were discussing this thread long before you tried to hijack it! Do not patronize me and try to consider more than just your own interpretation.

The preposition

might mean "among, by, from, in, of, under, with" depending on case and context, but you can't just pick a random meaning from the list.

And please don't take Strong's list of English equivalents too seriously. Use Thayer, at least. It specifically discusses this verse.

Okay thanks. I hope you enjoy the thread. I'm sorry that I called you a troll. Some of the things you said were pretty harsh, but I should not have responded in that way. I am a Christian. I have given my life to Jesus Christ and I live for Him. He has saved me from death and will resurrect me to eternal life after I die. Jesus is my Lord and Savior. I know that you and I have some differences, but this thread is not the place to discuss them. Please visit some of the threads in UT if you want to discuss that stuff.

the blind see again, the lame walk. Lepers are cleansed and the deaf hear. The dead are raised to life and the poor are given good news.

Yes the blind see, understand, the lamed walk, the lepers are cleansed and the deaf hear. The Dead are raised and the poor are lifted with hope of good news. Amen friend. The works are done that were not done before. Jesus loves all of us so much.
