What's the point of posting this besides telling the world you don't understand what the vaccine does? It vastly reduces death. So the number of infected is immaterial. Sort of like reporting how many people get a cold. Who cares? The only vaccinated people that are going to die of Covid now are people that have a lot of other problems that would have killed them shortly anyway.
If you want to talk about the long term unknowns and are we comfortable with drugs that are playing with our DNA....that's realistic. But for the vast majority of people that work/live around others, that aren't in the peak of health, have have been exposed to antibiotics not long ago....they should definitely get vaccinated and/or boosted. That's about 99.9% of the population.

Gee, I will pray for the good sense not to schedule a cruise during a worldwide pandemic. Despite the efforts of many misguided people, we cannot wish our way or ignore our way out of the covid outbreak. It takes a community effort to eliminate or eradicate viral pandemics. Some Americans seem content to deal with these variant outbreaks for years to come. It is rather astonishing.

So far, it looks like Omicron is infecting the vaccinated at much higher rates than the unvaccinated. Thank goodness it's mild, but it raises questions. Does it mean the unvaccinated have broader natural immunity or that OAS (original antigenic sin) is hampering the necessary immune response in the vaccinated?

The video is misleading.

First off, the number was 55 total who tested positive for COVID. This is out
of 5000 passengers and 95% are vaccinated. In other words, 5% were not.
Those infected were fully vaccinated and were mildly symptomatic or asymptomatic.

Royal Caribbean cruise skips two islands after 55 test positive for Covid-19

I don't believe the virus came from passengers or crew members themselves, but from
an outside source, such as supply personnel at the docks or even cab drivers who drove passengers to the ship.

If one of them was undervaccinated you better believe they would be blamed and lawsuits would follow.

But since they were all vaccinated, the excuse is "Well....the vaccines don't actually prevent covid. They just reduce the severity of the symptoms."

Hook, line, and sinker.

Remember people, infections don't matter when it comes to overall statistics. Serious situations and death matters. But we need to be concerned with our exposure to compromised people and those in poor health. Unfortunately that's a large segment of the population. Politicians are being cautious as they should. Sure the hospitalizations and deaths in South Africa are much lower with Omicron. We can only hope. But keep in mind that in South Africa the average age is a lot younger than in most western countries. But so far the numbers in the west look great. The best thing that could happen is everyone gets exposed and builds natural immunity (whether vaxxed or not) and this protects us in the future. Unless we get a much worse variant which is entirely possible. They expect a revision of the vaccine in March but in a few weeks, if numbers decline and hospitalizations are much less, they won't need it. We can only hope and pray. Omicron could be our saving grace.

Can you imagine forking over the enormous amounts needed to go on a luxury cruise, then be prohibited from disembarking, stop after stop? That's gotta be a downer, feeling trapped on your infectious spewing ship! :) Camping and road trips never looked so good. I envy Americans with their proximity to the south during winter. So, so lucky.

When people claim the vaccinated are being infected at a much higher rate in some areas than the unvaccinated it shows they don't understand numbers at all. Let's make it easier for the mathematically challenged. Suppose 99% of the population was vaccinated. Now if 90% of those infected are vaccinated does that show that its effective or not effective? Some people would say it shows its not effective but that is ignoring the numbers. Because 90 out of 99 shows that its preventing almost 90% which would be phenomenal. If most of the group is vaccinated and most are in almost all parts of the country, of course most infected will be vaccinated!

Always focus on hospitalizations, ICU's, ventilators, intubation and deaths. That's the important part of the picture. And for those the numbers are obvious everywhere. Vaccinations work. They work very well. So unless you live alone on an island you probably should get vaccinated and/or boosted.

It looks like that because it is because most of the population is vaccinated and the vaccine isn't designed to block all infection, rather to reduce its severity so people don't die.

62% have been vaccinated. So 2/3 have.

62% of the US population or that ship? I don't think you could go on that cruise without being vaccinated. It was a stipulation, wasn't it?
Only 2/3rds of us off the ship have been vaccinated.

Not being vaccinated is not against the law. So no lawsuits are possible. The cruise line has a policy of full vaccination only. Those without records can access a website that might have state registry records. 5% on the ship were not vaccinated.

You have no data to support that it's infecting vaccinated people at 'much higher rates'.

Ridiculous claim.

Have you been ignoring the data around the world? Almost every country on the planet is saying Omicron is much more prevalent than Delta. In a couple of weeks it should be almost all infections. We just should focus on the deaths because so far, they are not increasing much yet infection rates are skyrocketing. This means herd immunity should arrive much sooner than expected. Because so many are getting infected some will die, its inevitable. But they are on the edge anyway and probably would have died soon from other causes. Sort of like dying from a cold when you're teetering on the edge with other problems. Just the way the body works. The bigger picture looks fantastic. We now see a light at the end of this very long tunnel. That light should get a lot brighter by late winter. We may be mask/restriction/vax free by the spring.
