What may point to the masjid being bombed by US-made missiles (if the US carried out this strike, it'll be following the tactics of Assad and Russia in Syria of targeting mosques in airstrikes. It also continues to target opposition-held territories only (besides ISIS) and never Assad or his open allies, the ones responsible for the current genocide of the Sunnis in Syria):

Same missile used by the US in a drone strike in Idlib in October of 2016:

So remember Idlib drone strike in October 2016? It appears the same missile was used in the Al Jīnah mosque strike. h/t @EliotHiggins.

Confirmed by a US official to be a US airstrike according to one journalist. This must be confusing to the supposed anti-war, anti-intervention crowd because this strike targeted those against Assad and allies (who they defend or want to be left alone by the US), but the strike was by the US. In the end, I'd guess they hate the Muslims who oppose Assad more than they hate US intervention.

In any case, what a horrific massacre by a government that has increasingly exposed itself to be more of an ally to Assad's regime than to the majority of the Syrian population. Death toll increased to 75 with many still trapped under the rubble.

BREAKING: US officials confirm American aircraft carried out an airstrike in area of Aleppo where dozens of casualties are reported.

"The jets reportedly struck at the time of evening prayer so the mosque was full of worshippers, with local activists saying up to 300 people were inside at the time of the air raids.

[...]"Many people are still trapped under rubble and we believe the number of casualties will increase," he told the DPA news agency."

Sunni Muslims are always the victim to you, while Persecuted Christians, Shiites, Yazhidis, Alwaities, etc are oppressors :yawn:nothing new here folks, move along. That not to say it sad The US is involved in a Islamic Version of the 30 years war in the middle east between Sunnis, and Shiites, with everyone else inbetween.

Only on Christian Forums would a Christian say that people killed in a house of worship by a bomb strike are not victims.

US denies targeting mosque.

“We did not target a mosque, but the building that we did target - which was where the meeting [of militants] took place - is about 50ft (15m) from a mosque that is still standing,” spokesperson Colonel John J Thomas said.
Photos shared by activists reportedly from the scene showed bomb debris carrying serial numbers which identified the weapons used as American made Hellfire missiles.

Hopefully we'll get more clarity about just what building was destroyed, and by whom. Links above imply the targeted building was not just close to the mosque, but adjoining it.

It would make perfect sense for Islamic terrorist gangsters to hide-out in a building adjoined to a mosque... Knowing they are putting civilian lives at risk.

...To top it off, the locals just mingle with them.

Agreed.

The question is whether, knowing that, we should fire away and accept the 'collateral damage'.

I'm sure it a judgement call none of us would want to make, that why we need to stay out of these conflicts going on in the middle east, and let the Russians, Kurds, Iranians, Europeans, etc. Deal with the mess.

I think they keep updating that story on The Independent. I don't remember seeing this detail before:

"We did not target, nor did we strike a mosque. We targeted an al-Qaeda gathering across the street from a mosque. The mosque does not appear to be damaged following the strike," spokesperson Major Josh T Jaques told The Independent.

Lies by the US government. Activists know more than anyone else about their local buildings. And they say it was a masjid. There are actually 2 masjids (the one the US is referring to and the one that was bombed). So either one they bombed, it was a mosque (it appears they bombed the newly built, bigger one).

Furthermore,
1.) There is no al-Qaeda. The group that was officially linked to it split. And why the focus on al-Qaeda? If the US hasn't noticed, Assad has never been deliberately targeted by the US there. Also Hezbollah and IRG, both designated terrorists, have also escaped America's wrath there even though they commit a lot of the war crimes.

2.) The group I'm sure it is referring to is HTS which is comprised of a bunch of members from various groups, including the one previously known as Jabhat an-Nusra. Even if they were there, does that justifying hitting a place of worship during one of our five daily prayers (i.e. when the masjid would be filled with worshippers)?

3.) Locals say it was not a gathering place for HTS. It was one for the tableeghi jamaat, which is basically a missionary group. They go out to teach locals more about our religion. And the dead appear to be those preachers (they gathered in that masjid every Thursday for the past 4 years). I'm sure it was not a coincidence that the masjid was struck on a Thursday night, when the tableeghi jamaat gather, near prayer time when many were present.

US strike, 56 dead, last night in Jeena didn't hit HTS. Locals: 'It hit Tabligh gathering that happens every Thursday for past 4 years.'

A pretty comprehensive article that mentions how the US didn't know what governorate it attacked; it thought it was Idlib but it was really in Aleppo. The US also tried to claim it didn't target a mosque; it did. Either the US lied or it attacked a target without knowing much about it ("this would raise questions about the targeting and verification process"). And either way, it continues to ignore the biggest problem in Syria (Assad and his allies) while targeting the ones who fight against both Assad/allies and ISIS: CONFIRMED: US Responsible for Aleppo Mosque Bombing
https://twitter.com/QalaatAlMudiq/status/842784916282728448
Also, apparently: #Aleppo: Residents reporting that fleeing civilians who escaped from the mosque were killed by #US Hellfire missiles.

Some proof that the US struck the masjid (repeatedly):

Al-Jinah: Pentagon released photo post-airstrike to prove US didn't target a mosque. Actually it shows airstrikes destroyed the main mosque.

#Aleppo: #US said the mosque was not the target. So why was the mosque leveled by several #US airstrikes?

“Whether U.S. drones directly targeted the mosque at al-Jinah, as some allege — or it was instead caught up in a U.S. drone strike in the immediate vicinity — a significant number of civilians died at the scene, according to the White Helmets, local media and casualty monitors,” said Chris Woods, director of Airwars, a Britain-based group that tracks allegations of civilian casualties.

The organization said the rate of civilian deaths caused by U.S.-led coalition airstrikes, as well as unilateral U.S. actions, had been rising “steeply” in Syria and Iraq.

“Minimizing harm to noncombatants on the battlefield needs to remain a central priority, not an afterthought,” Woods said.

Mounting claims of civilian deaths after U.S. targets al-Qaeda in Syria

Note any military action that knowingly hits a place of worship = war crime. The strike also took place during evening prayers.
No underestimating the damage this apparent US strike in Al-Jinah will have done - rebels now equate US w. Russia & Assad. Dangerous.
Trump thinks looser targeting limits will make America safer; he's dangerously mistaken. Hitting a mosque during prayers = incitement.

US official: AQ strike in N. Syria involved two Reapers that fired roughly entirety of their Hellfire payload and followed up w/ 500lb bomb.

500 pound bomb & entire Hellfire payload. That intensity and supposedly didn't even know which governorate they were bombing or that it was a masjid (or they knew but didn't care and are lying about not knowing).

"OGN takes you on a complete walk-thru of what happened on Thursday evening wherein a US drone killed 56 people in a mosque. Locals say those in attendance were not Al Qaida. They were there for a dawah tabligh gathering which takes place every Thursday. The US account is false that they did not bomb the masjid. Actually they targeted the masjid attendees trying to flee. See for yourself..."

Complete On Site Walk Thru Of US Massacre Of 56 In Syria

How is this not a bigger deal? Because Assad, Iran, Russia, etc. regularly indiscriminately bomb non-combatants, it makes it somewhat acceptable for the US to do the same? Or because most people who would normally decry this under normal circumstances actually support Assad so they secretly approve of this?
