Greatest is rather subjective. Many would add Sproul, SPurgeon, Bonhoeffer to the list of "modern", but the church is in debt to many older philosophers as well - Augustine, Ambrose.....the list is long.

With all respect to Dr. King, most of his theology and ethics were derivative of Bonhoeffer, Gandhi, Niehbuhr, and the Social Gospel in general. I guess we could say he was more of a prophetic voice.

Luther was definitely a religious genius. I believe Bonhoeffer also was as well, to a lesser extent, more for his work on Ethics and his Letters and Papers from Prison.
