A lot of the migrants are from indigenous populations that there's a lot of prejudice against in Mexico. That's precisely why they don't want to stay in Mexico, they want to come to the US.

It does say something about the character of the migrants bc it points to their work ethic. That's the complaint the article says Mexicans have, these people are taking jobs (jobs have to be offered to be taken) in Mexico.

Apparently there's "a lot of prejudice" in the US too. So why can they handle American prejudice but not Mexican prejudice?

Being offered a job because you're in Mexico illegally and can be illegally paid less than a Mexican citizen means you have a high work ethic? The one doesn't follow the other.

The study, conducted by the Washington Post and Mexican newspaper Reforma, found “more than 6 in 10 Mexicans say migrants are a burden on their country because they take jobs and benefits that should belong to Mexicans.”

Additionally, more than half of the those same Mexican citizens are in favor of deporting migrants living in the country illegally.

Now they know exactly how many of us Americans feel when Mexicans illegally gain entry into our country. Watch Mexico actually do something about it, while America will never do something about it when it happens in our country. It's been happening in our country for decades, and it still continues to happen. If the illegal entry into the US by Mexicans has maybe declined over the past several years, maybe it's because most of Mexico is already here. Maybe that's why.

The prejudice isn't just in the form of hostility but violence.

Yes, it does follow. They have the work ethic to work. They want to survive, feed their kids, keep them from being raped & trafficked. Trump supporters had totally seized on the mayor of Tijuana having offered jobs to migrants. So the migrants took the jobs they were offered but are now resented by Mexicans for having taken those jobs.
