Populist anger is moving politics in Canada.

In a recent Edelman poll, only 43 per cent of Canadians say they trust their government — down from 53 per cent a year earlier.

And 80 per cent of Canadians feel the country's elites are out of touch.

The findings in the so-called Trust Barometer survey conducted annually by public relations firm Edelman is the first time in 17 years that Canada has joined the ranks of "distruster" countries in which more than half of citizens say they distrust their civic institutions.

Author and journalist Susan Delacourt says Prime Minister Justin Trudeau should be really concerned. This spike in distrust and cynicism is the same sentiment that propelled Donald Trump to the White House, and it is gaining ground here.

Populists and Conservatives everywhere have finally realized they need to take their countries back from the Left’s folly and overspending; but, sadly for many it’s too late, they have already allowed their cultures to be permanently changed to that of more dependence and no contribution.

Exactly. Too many out there are more afraid of the accusation of "racism" then they are the safety of their own children. How can a society like that survive?

A majority have distrusted the government going back to 2012, at least. So it's not really much of a development. Looks like a 17 point split, instead of an 11 point split five years ago. That may well be statistical noise.

Its enough for the CBC to take notice. And the fact that it goes against the grain of the Narrative is enough for me to give it credence. :)

Exactly, from Putin in Russia to Orban in Hungary, Al-SISI in Egypt, the rise of the right wing in Poland, the Brexit situation, duterte in the Philippines, the elections in Italy to Trump rise in the States, folks are using populist nationalism to take back their governments from internationalists, economic elites, the lamestreme media, political correct leftists, multiculturalists, and globalists.

You mean too many are being directed to fear something that is statistically insignificant? Too many people are succumbing to the paranoia we see down in the states. Too many are tired at having to consider other people's experiences.

That is a GRIEVOUS concern for me personally. And while I think it will survive, the trajectory puts in on a really, really terrible pathway.

No, too many are afraid of being called "racist" for anything.

Sounds like things are going great.

Sounds like snowflake talk. You don't like being called "racist"...muslims don't like being called "towel heads".

And good luck to them all, they're going to need it.

(Lol at putting Putin and Trump in the list at the same time as "taking back their governments from....economic elites" - you know how loaded those guys are? But this is why this rhetoric is just stupid. It's selective approval of whichever elites have managed to con you this time.)

"A new poll conducted by the Toronto-based Nanos Research points to overwhelming support — 86.2 percent — for strengthening public health care rather than expanding for-profit services."
New poll shows Canadians overwhelmingly support public health care

I think you are misreading the situation.

Calling a Muslim a "towel head" can get you fired in America and arrested in Britain; calling someone a "racist" in America will be applauded in America and applauded in Britain (no matter whether it's true or not).

Pffft. Yeah. And every word that ever gets uttered in public gets reported back to one's workplace.

Moot point.
