We hope to see you as a part of our community soon and God Bless!

  2. The forums in the Christian Congregations category are now open only to Christian members. Please review our current Faith Groups list for information on which faith groups are considered to be Christian faiths. Christian members please remember to read the Statement of Purpose threads for each forum within Christian Congregations before posting in the forum.
  3. Please note there is a new rule regarding the posting of videos. It reads, "Post a summary of the videos you post . An exception can be made for music videos.". Unless you are simply sharing music, please post a summary, or the gist, of the video you wish to share.
  4. There have been some changes in the Life Stages section involving the following forums: Roaring 20s, Terrific Thirties, Fabulous Forties, and Golden Eagles. They are changed to Gen Z, Millennials, Gen X, and Golden Eagles will have a slight change.
  5. CF Staff, Angels and Ambassadors; ask that you join us in praying for the world in this difficult time, asking our Holy Father to stop the spread of the virus, and for healing of all affected.
  6. We are no longer allowing posts or threads that deny the existence of Covid-19. Members have lost loved ones to this virus and are grieving. As a Christian site, we do not need to add to the pain of the loss by allowing posts that deny the existence of the virus that killed their loved one. Future post denying the Covid-19 existence, calling it a hoax, will be addressed via the warning system.

    Hello:wave:

Can anyone give me the proper definition and cultural-linguistic context of the Greek: logizomai ? Usually translated as 'credited' or 'imputed'?

    Thanks.

Well that term for "bad thoughts" (Go against Scripture and Christian doctrine etc.) is found in the Strong's Concordance.

    G3049 - logizomai - Strong's Greek Lexicon (kjv)

In looking at the Strongs and how it is used colloquially by the EO, Church Fathers etc. it seems to be in the context of using our own reasoning against spiritual wisdom, advice etc. Kind of like the verses in psalms about the fear of the Lord and not "leaning on your own understanding". Proverbs 3:5

But the term itself Lexiconally seems to have a basic meaning of to reason, calculate, think etc, in a neutral sense. In terms of culture etymology of the colloquial version of the term (bad thoughts) I would put money that it probably came from monks out in Egypt and Syria.. where theosis is a full time job. :)

Thank you. This answers my question. I was unsure of Strong's accuracy since James Strong was not a native Greek speaker.
Interesting. It came from the monks how?

purely a guess, but an educated guess since monks are deeply involved in spiritual development aka theosis. I got a video to send you that I think you will enjoy (if you haven't seen it already).

they are basically intrusive thoughts. so when you try to read your Bible, and all of a sudden you are thinking about something else.

Was this the general understanding when the Greek Fathers translated Genesis or has the meaning changed?

And not too far from it

    dialogismos: a reasoning

    Original Word: διαλογισμός, οῦ, ὁ

1260 dialogízomai (from 1223 /diá, "thoroughly," which intensifies 3049 /logízomai, "reckon, add up") – properly, go back-and-forth when evaluating, in a way that typically leads to a confused conclusion.

The term implies one confused mind interacting with other confused minds, each further reinforcing the original confusion.

not sure. but it was the term that was used when the monastics tackled prayer, and the enemy would try to prevent them from ceaseless prayer as St Paul says.
