Lockdowns in the U.S. and Europe had little or no impact in reducing deaths from COVID-19, according to a new analysis by researchers at Johns Hopkins University.

The lockdowns during the early phase of the pandemic in 2020 reduced COVID-19 mortality by about 0.2%, said the broad review of multiple scientific studies.

“We find no evidence that lockdowns, school closures, border closures, and limiting gatherings have had a noticeable effect on COVID-19 mortality,” the researchers wrote.

So do we start thinking about why people are being forced to do things that do not make them safer?

Many countries in Europe are.

I'm waiting for the Left to repeat the mantra that we should follow Europe concerning health policies; but I won't hold my breath to wait for them to come up with a new scheme for controlling people.

What lockdowns?

they closed some restaurants for a bit and that was it. nothing in my day to day changed. I went to work, I went to stores, I got take out

1 Introduction
The global policy reaction to the COVID-19 pandemic is evident. Compulsory non-
pharmaceutical interventions (NPIs), commonly known as “lockdowns” – policies that restrict
internal movement, close schools and businesses, and ban international travel – have been
mandated in one form or another in almost every country.

I disagree strongly.

Of course, lockdowns work if they are country wide. In Australia, we had no flu for two years because of the lockdowns. And we almost eradicated Covid-19 from the entire country, until a driver at Sydney Airport. Who was not wearing PPE and contracted Covid-19 from two US pilots.

The lockdowns in the US were not country wide, they were not proper lockdowns. China went hard on lockdown and contained Covid-19.

Lockdowns work if they are serious lockdowns. Think about what your proposing.

You can deny the science if you wish. I'll stick with the facts. In the mean time you can thank Biden for not securing our porous Southern border,

There were many studies done in 2021, parts of 2020 that stated the same lockdowns were ineffective _ here is one everything in the Washington Times - article you posted come from Washington also.

COVID-19 lockdowns caused more deaths instead of reducing them, study finds

An article posted in December 2021 which was released only a month before yours which says their studies show lockdowns did help slow the spread.

There will always be for and against almost all situations. And besides that States may have instituted lockdowns but people didn't comply.

Deny the science lol. What has worked elsewhere didn’t work in the US for a whole variety of reasons.

This study is a comprehensive worldwide study.

You may wish to at least review the science, before you laugh it off.

There are a number of countries where far fewer people died, per population. Those countries implemented early lockdowns and were better able to restrict movement and travel. Lockdowns in Europe and across the US weren’t really lockdowns in the same sense, just a messy kind of state that many people ignored.

The report is about why the lockdowns that were implemented were not effective, in some places, not that lockdowns are not effective. Have you read the whole thing?

Which countries?

What is the population density of those countries? What are social habits of their residents compared to countries with higher mortality rates?

I'm still reading through it. Please quote the portion of this study that supports your assertion.

No, it isn’t. ‘World’ studies are mentioned, but only the US and Europe/Scandinavia are discussed at any length. Australia, NZ, Taiwan, China, and other countries where lockdowns were strictly enforced and there were far fewer deaths per capita than in the US and across other countries like Brazil etc where lockdowns were a sloppy mess, are not discussed at all.
