'Lock her up' chants erupt as Trump attacks Whitmer at Michigan rally

President Trump renewed his attacks against Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer in a raucous Muskegon rally on Saturday evening, blasting what he called “draconian” COVID-19 safety regulations as his supporters broke into chants of “lock her up.”

The refrain came less than two weeks after state and federal authorities foiled an alleged militia plot to kidnap the governor and put her on trial for “treason” before the Nov. 3 election.

She lost her emergency powers (though signatures) then used the health department to enforce her agenda. I think people feel like they made their voices known and she totally ignored them and did want she wanted anyway.

Whether it's these people who chant 'lock her up' or 'USA' every time their empty heads don't know what else to do, or people sit and scream on the streets because someone dared to contradict their viewpoint, it shows that elections and life in general is running on a lack of intellect but fuelled to obesity by playing on emotions. This is not healthy and shows the fragile emotional state of the US. All the weapons and money in the world can't make up for a national emotional breakdown,.

Doesn't the US have the highest incarceration rate in the world? I really hate our gulag mentality. Wish prison was limited to violent offenses, as that would at least serve a clear purpose (protecting the population). But for non-violent offenses? That just creates a wider swath of victims (in that the innocent have to pay for it).

Families have been destroyed by premature deaths, long hospitalizations and depression.

Florida is open for business, but there is a high unemployment rate among those without desirable job skills as we are in a recession. Disney World is open subject to temperature screening before entry and face mask requirements for every one over the age of two. The price of housing in Florida has risen sharply since the pandemic started.

My point is some want everyone who have had their lives destroyed not to consider they have reasons to have a passion to be against her. Any my understanding they even took away her emergency powers in the legislature on this subject. Do many feel she went beyond her legal right? Apparently so. If that indeed is the case then one can understand others feeling that she should face the courts and the law .

Gretchen Whitmer should enjoy her position as governor now, because after the devastating damage she's done in this state, there is no possible way she will ever get re-elected.

Here’s a small list of businesses that have been destroyed so far, Michigan small businesses that have PERMANENTLY shut down due to Whitmer's ham-handed over-reaction in clamping down due to Covid-19. Many of these were family-owned enterprises that were not only people’s livelihoods, but businesses that the owners worked their whole lives to build up and make profitable.

In 1981 there was 11% unemployment. People were homeless. Businesses shut down.

In the 1930’s millions were hungry, people lost farms and homes, they took to the roads like gypsies looking for a better place.

My local barbershop was having difficulties before this crisis. I learned to cut my own hair. It saves a few dollars. Not sure if I will go back. I can live without the loss of diners, amusement parks, cruise ships, resort hotels etc.

So what if maybe some of their businesses they had in Michigan were devastated, crushed and destroyed due to lock downs and seeing the politicians still got their big paychecks! Why is that any reason to be mad and upset? Of course they should be singing the praises of Whitmer. Just a mystery to me why they wouldn't be.

And yet more Michiganders agreed with Whitmer's actions than not. The Michigan Supreme Court decided the case on strictly partisan lines.

And there is NO excuse for encouraging behaviors like the the 13 (14 ?) men who planned to kidnap and murder her. Absolutely NONE. The lock 'em up chant is not funny.

Sure you're not engaging in pure hyperbole? How do you get people in a Trump crowd shouting "Lock her up" as to mean they weren't talking about facing legal justice by a trial in Court. And I'm not even saying they have a case for that but many felt she committed an over reach and broke the law. But you join to that it would encourage people to kidnap her? Many of you have suggested Trump should go to jail by facing the law. Does that mean you're wanting to see him kidnapped? I'd think surely not.
