An excellent article;

Lives Fit for Beasts

I've done some study on demonology as of late. As said in this article, the stoics refused the 'bread and circus' games of the imperium which trapped people by their passions. So too do the demons trap us - and this is the reason for asceticism. When we give into evil passions we manifest the patterns of the demons and allow them to 'be,' in a sense, in our world and we fall into a maze where our actions become limited into certain patterns.

"While we are oppressed and imprisoned by the passions, we are often are loss to know why we suffer from them. We must, therefore, realize that it is because we allow ourselves to be diverted from the contemplation of God that we are taken captive in this way. But if a man fixes his intellect without distraction on our Master and God, then the savior of all can himself be trusted to deliver such a soul from impassioned servitude." St. Theodoros the Great Ascetic from Philokalia

The real truth is that in those parts of ourselves were we still follow sin we haven't learned to love Jesus and we haven't been set free yet.

It is about going to Jesus in our sinful self and repenting of following desires that are contra to Jesus, time and again, until love for Jesus has grown in that place in our hearts and we can do away with the wrongful actions.

i found that when we fight against our sin in our own ability then we cannot overcome sin or we replace one sin with the next, but when we eat grace then we begin to break free from our sinful habits because we begin to love the Lord in such part of our lives.

Obedience to Christ when we don't love Him is impossible, so it is about learning to Love Jesus more than our sin.

Peace.
