Liberals will welcome his canonization as a celebration of liturgical reforms. However, there's one big obstacle.

I think pope Paul was a heroic figure, not highly successful, but definitely heroic in resisting much of the mess that has spread into the Catholic Church. So, while I was not fond of him back then, I see that heroism now, and I think sainthood might be appropriate. I see him as potentially the saint of orthodox resistance to the whole of Liberalism/Modernism in the 1970's, that which is flowering now, which he tried unsuccessfully to stop. His encyclical Humanae vitae was heroic and prophetic restatement of the Christian understanding of sexuality, not very well explained, but noble nonetheless. If he is sainted, I'm running with St. Pope Paul VI, the saint of the resistance to the smoke of Satan. Let them canonize him. I would consider it a favor.
