Lindsey Graham: GOP can't 'move forward without President Trump'

Apparently Graham has lost track of which way is "forward."

    Thoughts?

I'm not sure Graham has ever known the way forward because before he started kissing up to Trump, he said some bad things about him. He said Trump is a 'kook,' 'crazy,' and 'unfit for office.' And then there's this: Lindsey Graham praises Joe Biden and calls Donald Trump a 'race-baiting, xenophobic, religious bigot' in new ad. Considering his flip-flopping, Graham doesn't strike me as an honest man.

There's an old saying, "Give a man enough rope and he will hang himself." That's already happening to the Republican Party under Trump's control, IMO. Personally, I think the Republican Party will end up hanging itself (figuratively speaking) under Trump's control. I won't feel bad about it either. If the only way to save the Republican Party from Trump and his loyalists is to let it crash and burn, then so be it. I'm all for cutting the strings of the Republican leaders who are swinging on Trump's marionette.

    From the link:

Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) on Thursday said the Republican Party can’t “move forward” without former President Trump.
I can't intellectually base an opinion off of two words from a sentence not quoted.

They can’t win with him and they can’t move forward without him.

Quite the conundrum for the GOP.

Ah, here is a better quote from the link:

“I would just say to my Republican colleagues, can we move forward without President Trump? The answer is no,” Graham said.

“I’ve always liked Liz Cheney, but she’s made a determination that the Republican Party can’t grow with President Trump. I’ve determined we can’t grow without him.”

Graham added that the GOP is making inroads with minorities due to Trump’s “economic populism” and “America First agenda.”

“If you don’t get that, you’re making the biggest mistake in the history of the Republican Party,” Graham said.

The comments come as the GOP grapples with Trump’s role in the party going forward.
I can see what he is saying -

Trump's approval after 2 impeachments, four attempted impeachments (that never made it to the floor), 96% negative press etc - was vastly unaffected.

The minority community was responding to our job growth, lower taxes and low unemployment numbers and that was equating to votes

I'm hoping this means they lose with him or they get smart and lose him. But, even if they lose him, the mold is cast.

How strange is it that one man, with so little to offer, has this much influence? It says a lot about the mind set of his supporters. They will say anything, and apparently do anything, at his beck and call. That's troubling.

That has always seemed like the most likely scenario. I mean Miss Lindsey saw Trump for who he was back when he was suggesting Trump was unsuited for office. Trump didn't change. Why did Lindsey suddenly come around to be Trump's lead lickspittle?

Trump was EXTREMELY important to the GOP. It taught them that nothing is truly important except raw power.

Morality is PURELY SITUATIONAL. Nothing means anything and there is literally no down side to following one's worst impulses.

    Yup. Scary indeed.

And just think how many years the Democrats were labeled as moral relativists, particularly by Christians. I remember the rants over Clinton's equivocation over "is." That was prime fodder for the moral absolutism they liked to portray and talk about. But we have found, "That was a lie."

Yeah, so much of what the Religious Right told us about themselves seems to have gone completely out the window when Trump came along. Trump seemed to represent literally every single thing they stood four-square against and they seem to really love him.

I wonder if it was always just pure lust for power that drove the Moral Majority and Religious Right or if at one time they were true believers.

I wonder, too. I'm inclined to say they believed what they were saying then, but Trump showed the lie that too many of them still can't see. Then again, early proponents were very explicit about the need to garner political power to win the culture war (I'm thinking of Francis Schaeffer here). And yet, I still think they felt they had a righteous goal. But, alas, they became just as susceptible to the intoxicating effects of fear and power as most do. So much for Christian virtue, pfft.

People have already brought it up, but here's what Lindsey Graham has to say about Trump:

Lindsey Graham states Trump is unfit for office. - YouTube

"We would get slaughtered if Donald Trump was our nominee, and quite frankly, we'd deserve it."

And now, they can't move forward without that kook.

Graham has absolutely no moral compass. He blows with the wind.

If those votes were based on Donald's policies, then the GOP could jettison him but preserve the policies.

Why is Graham not capable of doing that?

Well, "Christian virtue" was only ever a tool by which to attain power... Donald simply showed them an easier way.
