It’s obvious that the ship’s captain was afraid it was only his allegiance to Iran being tested (which is a test he would not want to fail with no exit plan)... otherwise, it's likely he would have taken the offer... no doubt a win/win deal for him and U.S. Trump is smart.

Iran is a menace to it's own people, to Israel and to world peace & security. Besides the daily chanting of "Death to America, & their pledge to wipe Israel off the Map, Iran is an exporter & national sponsor of Islamic terrorist groups world wide.

Also considering this vessel was carrying oil to Syria in violation of EU sanctions is another thing. But let’s not have facts get in the way of a “good” story.

Somewhat like a cold war. I think we should have just taken the ship versus offering money for a captain to defect. Plausible deniability, an attempt at harassing the Iranian regime? The US before ww2, started choking Japan economically, and led to them eventually attacking us. Another attempt to get the war footing the war hawks wanted at the time, push hard until your enemy fights you, then declare a war. All of this was deserved by the Japanese for the terrible things they were doing in the region. Iran is also deserving of a war as is N Korea. IF we allow Iran to develop nuclear bombs, the whole region gets much worse and problematic and difficult to manage. Turkey is now demanding they be allowed nuclear weapons, and maybe the Saudis will too.

The Russians are heavy into Syria and they are moving into Iran to place military bases ultimately. Russia has promised to pay up to half trillion dollars into Iranian oil development programs to get more oil out of the ground.

Oh now, let's not obfuscate the issue with facts. Somehow people have been sold this idea that giving Iran access to its own money in an agreement for them to hold back on their nuclear program, is some terrible thing to have done. In fact, when the talking heads started their complaints about our sending this chunk of money to Iran, it wasn't even made clear that what we were doing was giving them back their money that we had frozen until an agreement could be made concerning Iran's nuclear build up.

The same thing is now happening with this tanker. It's their tanker and we are not at war with Iran and we shouldn't have any right to just go and take their tanker. The problem is that President Trump knows that his sanctions against Iran won't hurt them enough. He can make them hurt even more by commandeering their oil tanker. None of the other nations even wanted this withdrawal of the U.S. from the agreement and the institution of sanctions. Even France is working on a deal to provide money to Iran to help them through these sanctions that only the U.S. is interested in enforcing. There is absolutely no one who likes to make people hurt, that are perceived to be against him, than Donald Trump. He has. over his business lifetime, spent countless millions of dollars through attorneys and court filings making others hurt.

When Donald Trump says that he's a great negotiator, what he really means is that he will take others to the place where they will hurt so much that they have to cry uncle. That isn't a negotiator.

All and can say is that for those who are not happy with this administration and the circus that our government has become, get out and vote.
