A troubling night for pro-life reformers.

(LifeSiteNews) — Americans voted Tuesday on abortion-related ballot initiatives in California, Kentucky, Michigan, Montana, and Vermont, and as of 5:30AM CST Wednesday morning, abortion allies have maintained the lead in all five vote totals.

A proposed amendment to the Vermont Constitution expressly guaranteeing “an individual’s right to personal reproductive autonomy,” including abortion, was the first to be decided, with 77.4% voting in favor, making Vermont the first state to formally enshrine abortion “rights” in its constitution.

Let's not get discouraged. It has been a long fight to get rid of Roe v Wade and the pendulum was bound to swing after that decision. Now the fights need to be recalibrated. The Kentucky Amendment 2 was an attempt to put wording into their Constitution that made abortion illegal. This was a bridge too far. They had already put in a restrictive bill that stopped most abortions after a fetal heartbeat is detected, except for medical emergency. The language of the amendment could be interpreted to get rid of that exception. So it was well ahead of what the public will accept. The recalibration has to be in language to restore some reason in how the media presents abortion as reproductive rights. It is neither reproductive or a right. I think Montana had a better approach, where you try to give the fetus rights and therefore the opponents appear to be anti-fetal rights.
