As a Christian site, we do not need to add to the pain of the loss by allowing posts that deny the existence of the virus that killed their loved one. Future post denying the Covid-19 existence, calling it a hoax, will be addressed via the warning system.

Someone needs to remind Laura of:

1 Timothy 2:11 Let the woman learn in silence with all subjection.
12 But I suffer not a woman to teach, nor to usurp authority over the man, but to be in silence.

Good thing that's only meant to apply to the priesthood. :)

Lebron is correct -- that he is an example to youth -- that they can succeed as he has.

Right out of high school -- he was making millions -- I admire him that he was not corrupted as he might have been.

Laura is incorrect to see him as "an athlete only" -- and to think someone who has succeeded in a certain field does not have political opinions. Singers and athletes are citizens also; they have free speech.

No one should "shut up" in a democracy.

I disagree...our current president used his celebrity to comment on Obama, Clinton, and politics in general all the time. LeBron James has as much right a anyone to voice his opinion.

Someone ought to remind her that some of the most popular folks in her business (and at her network in some cases): Limbaugh, Hannity, and Beck were all college dropouts who've been paid to do nothing but run their mouths for the last couple decades.

No one elected her, them, or any of their other gasbag colleagues.

But apparently he is a H.S. graduate.

Lebron James was raised as a Catholic in Akron, Ohio. He actually went to a Catholic school, St. Vincent–St. Mary Catholic High School, and after graduation, he was drafted into the NBA.

I'm not suggesting that anyone should listen to him....just saying he's right to stand up for his opinion.

James has the right to comment. People watch sports to get away from politics and news though. It's like the U.S. skater going after VP Pence. People watch the Olympics to see him skate. They're not interested in his opinions on Pence.

They probably shouldn't be interested...but that's up to them to decide. Colin Kapernick decided to mix politics with his sports career, and I heard it worked out great for him.

Even Michael Moore made one funny movie I liked -- CANADIAN BACON.
I guess other than that he could shut up...

But "college dropout" might not really apply to athletes who opt to make a bunch of money; Carmello played one year at Syracuse then went pro -- RG3 could have played one more year at Baylor but went to the Redskins and was rookie of the year; he got a Political Science degree but still had a year of eligibilty left

Yet they play the national anthem during sports games and then you have a president attacking people for protesting? The notion that sporting events are not connected to politics is ludicrous on the face of the 1936 Olympic Games, integration of any US sport, etc. It's always been about politics, which is one of the reasons athletes are attacked for speaking out. There has always been an effort to silence black athletes from Muhammad Ali, John Carlos and Tommie Smith, all the way to Colin Kaepernick. No one in the right wing was complaining when Pat Tillman was used as a poster boy to promote jingoism (completely dishonoring his sacrifice by covering up the details of his death). No one in the right wing complained about Tim Tebow promoting his pro-life stance. Nope, it's when those black athletes who use their platform to speak on an issue.

Whenever they use their platform, there is a demand for them to shut up while racist insults about their level of intelligence abound (like falsely claiming LeBron James dropped out of high school). It all comes back to the fact that when it comes to athletic talent, there is always this paternalistic attitude about athletes being given the privilege and being lucky, as if their talent and hard work did not get them there. In their eyes, black athletes are not supposed to be successful and are only successful because they "let" them.

Ali was arrested for refusing to go to Vietnam -- a significant political stance and issue at the time. By contrast, James said that Trump "doesn't understand people" and doesn't "give a [expletive] about people." What political stance is being taken here? He is ranting, not addressing any issues.

Are we now attempting to shift the goalposts? Are you now attempting to argue that only particular political stances qualify for speaking out? Speaking out against a sitting president is a political stance.

Speaking out against what? What is the stance?
