You are correct. Jesus was not resurrected until 3 days after his death. His body lay in the tomb, but his spirit went with the thief's spirit to paradise, and to the spirit prison where he preached unto the spirits in prison.
Then after he was resurrected, then he went to where his Father and God was, which was in heaven.
(John 20:17). Therefore this spirit paradise and prison cannot be where God the Father dwells.

The Spirit of Jesus went to hell while the Criminal went to paradise in the third heaven

, The Bible says Paradise is in the third heaven or where God dwells:

1st Heaven is Rakia to a Jew it is the atmospheric heaven found in Jer 8:7, 10:13

Isa 55:10. it is were the birds fly clouds, made on 2nd day

2nd heaven shamayim to a Jew it is the starry heaven found in Jer 44:17,25; Psalm 8:3

3rd heaven shemi Hashamayim it is the heaven where God dwells found in 1 Kings 8:27, Deut. 26:15, 2 Chron 6:33 Eccl. 5:2

This passage below says Paradise is in the third heaven

2 Corth 12:

1 It is doubtless not profitable for me to boast. I will come to visions and revelations of the Lord: 2 I know a man in Christ who fourteen years ago—whether in the body I do not know, or whether out of the body I do not know, God knows—such a one was caught up to the third heaven. 3 And I know such a man—whether in the body or out of the body I do not know, God knows—4 how he was caught up into Paradise and heard inexpressible words, which it is not lawful for a man to utter.

Rev 2:6 But this thou hast, that thou hatest the deeds of the Nicolaitanes, which I also hate. 7 He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches; To him that overcometh will I give to eat of the tree of life, which is in the midst of the paradise of God.

REV 22: 13 I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end, the first and the last. 14 Blessed are they that do his commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city.

Yes, I have heard what you think the 3 heavens are, and especially the third heaven.

The reason you say that Jesus did not go to paradise is because that is where you think God dwells. You also know that he had not seen his Father and his God until after the resurrection. (John 20:17).

So you have to go contrary to the bible and deny that Jesus said to the thief that 'today' thou shalt be 'with me' in paradise.

What you need to know to reconcile all the scripture is that the spirit world paradise is not the same paradise the God dwells in with the tree of life. The spirit world paradise is only a temporary place, and is not the same as where God the Father dwells. Then you do not have to argue with the bible.

Jesus and the criminal didn't go to the same place at death, the Criminal went to heaven while Jesus went to hell and 40 days later Jesus went to heaven also
According to the bible, Jesus went to paradise with the thief. Read it again, and confirm that I am right.
Luke 23:43. Pay special attention to the word 'today'.

Luke 23:46 NIV
Jesus called out with a loud voice, "Father, into your hands I commit my spirit." When he had said this, he breathed his last.

Neither Jesus nor the thief were resurrected at the moment of death, but the spirit leaves the body.

The phrase “absent from the body” is found in 2 Corinthians 5:6-8. Paul states that he is confident in his eternal destiny and longs for the day when he can be “absent from the body” and be present with the Lord he loves and serves. To be “absent” from one’s body simply means to die because, at death, the spirit is separated from the body and moves into its eternal abode—either heaven with the Lord or hell, separated from God for eternity.
What does it mean to be absent from the body?
Jesus and the thief getting resurrected is not the subject. The subject is Jesus and the thief going to paradise in their spirit forms.

The Bible is clear Jesus went to hell

acts 2:
25 “King David quoted Jesus as saying:
‘I know the Lord is always with me. He is helping me. God’s mighty power supports me.
26 ’No wonder my heart is filled with joy and my tongue shouts his praises! For I know all will be well with me in death—
27 ’You will not leave my soul in hell or let the body of your Holy Son decay.
28 ’You will give me back my life and give me wonderful joy in your presence.’
29 “Dear brothers, think! David wasn’t referring to himself when he spoke these words I have quoted, for he died and was buried, and his tomb is still here among us. 30 But he was a prophet, and knew God had promised with an unbreakable oath that one of David’s own descendants would be the Messiah and sit on David’s throne. 31 David was looking far into the future and predicting the Messiah’s resurrection, and saying that the Messiah’s soul would not be left in hell and his body would not decay. 32 He was speaking of Jesus, and we all are witnesses that Jesus rose from the dead.
33 “And now he sits on the throne of highest honor in heaven, next to God. And just as promised, the Father gave him the authority to send the Holy Spirit—with the results you are seeing and hearing today.
34 “No, David was not speaking of himself in these words of his I have quoted, for he never ascended into the skies. Moreover, he further stated, ‘God spoke to my Lord, the Messiah, and said to him, Sit here in honor beside me 35 until I bring your enemies into complete subjection.’

Acts 13:34 “For God had promised to bring him back to life again, no more to die. This is stated in the Scripture that says, ‘I will do for you the wonderful thing I promised David.’ 35 In another Psalm he explained more fully, saying, ‘God will not let his Holy One decay.’ 36 This was not a reference to David, for after David had served his generation according to the will of God, he died and was buried, and his body decayed. 37 No, it was a reference to another—someone God brought back to life, whose body was not touched at all by the ravages of death.

The Bible was clear both Jesus and the Criminal didn't go to same place that day, since today in the Bible has several meanings

Hebrews 3:7 Therefore, as the Holy Spirit says:
“Today, if you will hear His voice

Hebrews 4: “Today, if you will hear His voice,
Do not harden your hearts.”

Hebrews 5: 5 So also Christ did not glorify Himself to become High Priest, but it was He who said to Him:
“You are My Son,
Today I have begotten You.

Zech 9:12 Return to the stronghold, You prisoners of hope. Even today I declare That I will restore double to you.

Luke 4

16 So He came to Nazareth, where He had been brought up. And as His custom was, He went into the synagogue on the Sabbath day, and stood up to read. 17 And He was handed the book of the prophet Isaiah. And when He had opened the book, He found the place where it was written:

18 “The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me,

Because He has anointed Me

To preach the gospel to the poor;

He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted,

To proclaim liberty to the captives

And recovery of sight to the blind,

To set at liberty those who are oppressed;

19 To proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord.”

20 Then He closed the book, and gave it back to the attendant and sat down. And the eyes of all who were in the synagogue were fixed on Him. 21 And He began to say to them, “Today this Scripture is fulfilled in your hearing.” 22 So all bore witness to Him, and marveled at the gracious words which proceeded out of His mouth. And they said, “Is this not Joseph’s son?”

The bible is also clear that Jesus went with the thief to paradise also.

So to get around that obvious statement by Jesus, you have spent a tremendous time researching the word "today" so that you can say that "today" in the scriptures does not always mean "today". If that is what you are hanging your argument on, it is at best slim logic, and at worst untruthful.
