My husband and I just got home from seeing.....King Kong! I loved it...even my hubby got teary eye'd....

What did others think of it?

I thought they spent way too much time developing it... I fell asleep at one part, and then they didnt keep with the development. But it was good once it got going.

I'll certainly agree it was a festival of sight and sound unequaled by any other I've seen. On the other hand I thought it might have been hurt by Peter Jackson's love of Kong. What I mean by that was there were a lot of moments where I just thought the movie could have used some editing. Lignoba is right in that there are just some parts of the movie you almost get bleary-eyed at. The extended elxplanation of Hayes and Jimmy's relationship was there only to set you up for feeling more of a loss when Hayes died. While I'll give Jackson credit for keeping people guessing on who would live and who would die, there just seemed to be a little TOO much. I thought the relationship between Anne and Jack was a little stilted at the beginning, and the movie kind of threw it in the viewers face. It was just TOO obvious, and shown blatantly.

Other than those gripes I very much enjoyed the movie, and certainly left feeling like I'd gotten my money's worth. Jackson created an amazingly ALIVE Kong, with enough depth of character to put some of the other actors to shame. Naomi Watts was absolutely brilliant as Anne. You could really feel her attatchment to this lumbering beast, as well as her being torn by her desire to be with other humans.

The other actors all did well, even with the often predictable dialogue (I don't think it was that the writing was that bad, it's just not surprising when you already know the story). Most surprising to me was the fact that the usually grating Jack Black didn't annoy me, and that alone makes the movie worth it.

I'd give it an 8.5 out of 10. Worth it, for sure, but nothing life-changing.

Film opinions are as individual as each of us. I was smitten. With the ape and the film,effects,etc. Sad as this film is,I would have not missed it on the big screen for anything. Jackson has great drive to create this film with detail,humor,beauty and all.I loved it too bella.

Aside from a lot of people being hemmed in by bad weather, I personally think theater prices this year finally went beyond the threshold of what people are willing to pay. With the increasing affordability of home entertainment systems that rival a theater environment (without annoying people with cell phones, little children or people who fall asleep and snore), along with the shorter film-to-dvd time, I think people figure waiting is better. May not be long before we start seeing a lot of films go straight to DVD.

OOOO I saw King Kong twice here. I went opening night and again last night. I've never seen a theatre film twice in one week.

With the increasing affordability of home entertainment systems that rival a theater environment (without annoying people with cell phones, little children or people who fall asleep and snore), along with the shorter film-to-dvd time, I think people figure waiting is better. May not be long before we start seeing a lot of films go straight to DVD.

I dunno what you're really talking about with prices.. In the midwestern areas I'm familiar with, it has stayed relatively stable at $7.50 to $8.00 for like 4 years.

I also don't think home entertainment systems will really ever rival theatres. People don't have big enough homes. The overall box office was actually up for the month this year, just down for the year as a whole. I think it was a lack of particularly popular blockbusters.

Now, getting to the film...

I've seen it twice now, and I thought it was great. Succeeded in everything it tried for. I don't think it was without flaws, but they weren't big enough to detract from what I rate it at - 10/10.

Hey Sweet B,I wanted to post an opinion because I'm still talking about this movie. I saw it for a birthday gift ,didn't know I was going and I just loved it. Took awhile to get going ya know? But,I loved the way it was done. I hope P.J. gets some Oscar nomination on this one. A film meant for Big screen though,I don't think it would give justice on dvd. Must see this people. Hawaiian t gives Kong a 10 How about them worms?? EWWWW

I am thinking that this was just about the best movie that I have ever seen! I have never thought so HIGHLY of a movie to the point where I walk out of the theater in a stupor, and cannot stop talking about it! I laughed SO hard (many times at the points where typical people wouldn't laugh)...nearly cried, was on the edge of my seat, and was scared silly...and I mean TERRIFIED! I am so glad there was nobody sitting in front of me, because at one point I had my feet pinned against the back of that chair as I shook all over...

There was romance, action/adventure, humor, mystery, suspense, horror...and bloody awesome special effects!!!

KING KONG WAS BRILLIANT!

I saw it..and plan on seeing it again this weekend. AWESOME movie. The pacing was excellent with plenty of great character developing scenes. Loved the beginning scenes.

Also, Jack Black was MADE for the role. He played the depression era, slimy hollywood director PERFECTLY.

A real film of films,like they don't make anymore. I really felt moved,and at times like I was fighting with Kong. What a great art direction this is.

A super movie!

I am thinking that this was just about the best movie that I have ever seen! Hate to be the voice of dissension here, but I went with a friend a couple of days ago, and honestly, I HATED it. It felt like it was 12 hours long and at least 12 separate movies - or like a bad string of spoofs and unrealistic action sequences, punctuated by the occasional mind-numbing three-minute "stare of emotional connection." The first 15 minutes was great. They started really developing the characters. And then they crash on the island, and it's almost as if they just said, "That's enough depth! Let's do some crap action now!" I mean, Jimmy shoots a semiauto at Jack and it only hits the bugs? The T-Rex and whats-her-face swinging back and forth? It was like Jurassic Park meets Chicago. And the part where she walks down the (suddenly, miraculously silent and deserted) street in New York (in freezing weather in a flimsy dress) with (of course!) a dramatic sunrise silhouetting her? I cracked up. We were begging for the credits before they even reached the city. Maybe Peter Jackson took a bet that he couldn't write a hit movie while blind drunk.

Jack Black is superb in his role - you really hate him as they leave the island!

The bit where they "meet" the natives is truly freaky and the part with the bugs is terrifying!!

The action sequences with the dinosaurs are jaw dropping (bad pun considering what Kong does to one of them ) - particularly the stampede sequence when the big dinosaurs are falling off the cliff, taking others with them, and the survivors have to outrun the crumbling floor!!

New York looked amazing, infact, the whole film looked amazing - something to expect from Jackson really!

It never felt rushed or stretched out as they stayed with each section just long enough.

It had plenty of genuinely funny moments!!

All in all i loved it!! I wanted to see it again as soon as the credits rolled! Easily one of the best films ive seen in a long time and the reviews that its getting are definately not over hyped! If you havent already - GO SEE IT!! Definately worth the price of admission!

We loved it. All 8 of us! I went with my youth group and feel it's one of the wildest rides I've ever been on. The T Rex fight made me nervous! The kiss between Adrian and Naomi I love him in this film.
I only have one complaint! I wish Jack Black had not been cast in this. I'll never like him again. For awhile anyways.

I think the main reason the box office seems slow is because it only gets half the showings a night that an hour and a half movie would get so there is less opportunity each night for ticket sales.

That said I think it is doing amazingly well for a three hour movie.
