Either the reciepiant or his supervisor submits the request for a medal. I don't know if it's the same for purple hearts. Other medals it is.

i would like to see the details of the circumstances of the other medals being earned, just to kind of put this all to bed. if he was there a week, 4 months or 4 years has nothing to do with how he performed there. the other circumstances will validate one vision or another of him i would suspect. the things that are making jameseb go "hmmmmmmm" are making me go "ho-hummmmm" until something other than his unsupported speculation makes this a reasonable assumption. otherwise it is useless partisanship. i would like to know the facts before i speculate on the man's heroism. another poster said that his war protests negate his assumed valor in combat. i see no logic to that statement whatsoever.
