As far as the technical aspect of it, it depends on what kind of music you are writing.

I am just experimenting at the moment ... trying to find a style ... I have to admit I know very little about music ... and how it all works my last few songs have just been repeated cord progressions. It definitely needs improvement.

So the gaps are too big? Need a better flow of lyrics?

A problem that I have is not knowing how to add in variation. Do you have any rules you use in your head for making good variations?

As far as rhythm goes you need to make your lines match the measures of the music. As far as delivery goes are you trying to sing or rap?

Not really sure what my voice can do ... I am not trendy enough to rap ... will probably just experiment see what sounds best. At the moment I am just tinkering, I don't think I have a good enough voice to be real professional but I enjoy writing lyrics, so singing is really just for fun. But I still would like to do the best I can when I do sing. So any advise on how to improve is welcome.

Do you mean adjust the sentences to fit the rhythm. Or just adjust my vocals to fit the rhythm.

Usually adjust the lines. If you adjust your delivery to fit the rhythm it will seem forced. Sorry for the late reply I just recently lost a friend and have been struggling with it.
