The Katskhi pillar is a 130-foot-tall natural limestone monolith located near the town of Chiatura, Georgia. On top of the pillar is a structure that was built by a hermit during the 9th or 10th century. Nowadays, it is inhabited by a Georgian Orthodox monk named Maksim Qavtaradze. Qavtaradze only leaves his pillar twice per week to visit the monastery down below and collect food, and must do so by scaling down the rock wall via a ladder.
