Hey. When a person dies do they go to judgement and then heaven or hell or does their soul go to a state of soul sleep awaiting a final collective ressurection?

    God bless!

"Soul sleep" is a relatively new idea that comes mainly from the anti-Catholic sentiment among some protestant groups. Christians have always believed that the souls of the righteous pass into the presence of God at death and wait there until the final judgement, while the souls of the unrighteous pass away from the presence of God until the final judgement. The Revelation records the souls of the righteous as praising God in heaven.

It comes directly from scripture from any Christians who are allowed to read scripture.

    Matthew 9:24
He said, “Go away, for the girl is not dead but sleeping.” And they laughed at him.

    Mark 5:39
And when he had entered, he said to them, “Why are you making a commotion and weeping? The child is not dead but sleeping.”

    1 Thessalonians 4:13
But we do not want you to be uninformed, brothers, about those who are asleep, that you may not grieve as others do who have no hope. For since we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so, through Jesus, God will bring with him those who have fallen asleep. For this we declare to you by a word from the Lord, that we who are alive, who are left until the coming of the Lord, will not precede those who have fallen asleep.

    John 11:11
After saying these things, he said to them, “Our friend Lazarus has fallen asleep, but I go to awaken him.”

    Matthew 27:52
The tombs also were opened. And many bodies of the saints who had fallen asleep were raised,

    Psalm 13:3
Consider and answer me, O Lord my God; light up my eyes, lest I sleep the sleep of death,

    Ephesians 5:14
For anything that becomes visible is light. Therefore it says, “Awake, O sleeper, and arise from the dead, and Christ will shine on you.”

    Luke 8:52
And all were weeping and mourning for her, but he said, “Do not weep, for she is not dead but sleeping.”

All of these verses are pertaining to the physical Earthly body and its resurrection. The body is "asleep" since believers will rise again on Earth. It's a euphemism, rather than a literal sleep, either of the soul or the body. Nowhere is there a mention of souls in any of the verses you quoted.

What did GOD give to Adam after forming him from the dust of the earth was it a soul ? NO it was

    Genesis 2:7
And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.

Notice that once the spirit was interjected into the dust man became a living soul, it does not say GOD gave man a soul.

    Job 33:4
The spirit of God hath made me, and the breath of the Almighty hath given me life.

Ecclesiastes 12:7 King James Version (KJV)
7 Then shall the dust return to the earth as it was: and the spirit shall return unto God who gave it.

    Spirit = breath not soul

    Psalm 115:17
The dead praise not the Lord, neither any that go down into silence.

The lie told to EVE is being accepted by most believers today

    Genesis 3:4
And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die:

    Jesus said

    Matthew 9:24
He said unto them, Give place: for the maid is not dead, but sleepeth. And they laughed him to scorn.

    Revelation 21:8
But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.

Church 'systems' don't really heed all of The Bible. Early on we are told in Ecclesiastes 12:5-7 what happens at death of our flesh body. Our flesh goes back to the earth where it came from, but our spirit goes back to God Who gave it. It mentions the idea of a "silver cord" being severed when this happens. It is pointing specifically to two distinct and different operations, the flesh vs. spirit.

In John 3, Lord Jesus contrasted the difference between flesh and spirit.

In 2 Corinthians 5 Apostle Paul revealed that if our flesh body were dissolved, we have another house not made with hands, but eternal in the heavens. He was pointing to our spirit part having a type body of its own in that other dimension. This connects with the idea in Eccl.12 about our spirit going back to God. It means our 'person' (soul) with a spirit body.

In 1 Corinthians 15, Apostle Paul taught the resurrection is to a "spiritual body", and he contrasted specifically the difference between a flesh body and a body of the heavenly dimension. He also pointed to Christ's body being made 'a quickening spirit'.

In Matthew 10:28, Lord Jesus said not to fear those who can kill our flesh, but not our soul. That reveals that our spirit and soul are linked, and both together are separated from our flesh at death.

In Matthew 22:30, Jesus showed the resurrection is "as the angels of God in heaven." That means an angelic type body of the heavenly order, not another flesh body.

All these above Scriptures are direct evidence that the idea of 'soul sleep' is just an expression that Paul used for saints that have already died and are with The LORD. It does not mean they are literally asleep in the casket out in the ground. Those who think those kind of things show their backwardness and lack of Bible study. For the true Bible student, it's easy to know those haven't really studied, but are just following an old tradition of man.

The dead are unconscious and in the ground awaiting resurrection.

not even King David is in heaven.

That's an old Jewish tradition, because the orthodox unbelieving Jews believe that a soul cannot manifest life without a flesh body, which is not true per Matthew 10:28 and 2 Corinthians 5 and 1 Corinthians 15.

Use of Acts 2 to try and prove soul sleep is an abuse of that Scripture, because that's not what it's talking about. It's talking about how The Father raised Lord Jesus and set Him on His right hand in Heaven, not David. It only points out that David is dead and not exalted to God's right hand. It doesn't mean David is in the ground sleeping.

    Acts 2:29-35
29 Men and brethren, let me freely speak unto you of the patriarch David, that he is both dead and buried, and his sepulchre is with us unto this day.

    30 Therefore being a prophet, and knowing that God had sworn with an oath to him, that of the fruit of his loins, according to the flesh, he would raise up Christ to sit on his throne;

31 He seeing this before spake of the resurrection of Christ, that His soul was not left in hell, neither His flesh did see corruption.

32 This Jesus hath God raised up, whereof we all are witnesses.

33 Therefore being by the right hand of God exalted, and having received of the Father the promise of the Holy Ghost, he hath shed forth this, which ye now see and hear.

34 For David is not ascended into the heavens: but he saith himself, "The LORD said unto my Lord, 'Sit Thou on My right hand,

35 Until I make Thy foes Thy footstool.'"
    KJV
