Some interesting info on the 1st century trumpets........

Revelation 8 Commentary- Plagued by Trumpets
The Roman Assault on Israel Began around the Feast of Trumpets Hence the Seven Trumpets of Revelation—Thus Began the Jewish War.

In A.D. 66 while Judea was aflame in bloodshed, riot and revolt, Rome responded by sending the 12th legion in addition to thousands of auxiliaries from neighboring kingdoms. These troops, as if orchestrated by God, arrived in Jerusalem in the Jewish month of Tishri, a month that begins with the Feast of Trumpets.
Called the Day of Judgment, it is on this day that trumpets sound the somber days of atonement and final judgment (Leviticus 23:24, Numbers 29:1).
Thus began the Jewish War.3
The A.D. 70 Doctrine View, Interpretation, Exposition and Commentary of Revelation 8: In Every Event that Fulfills the Seven Trumpets of Revelation an Audible Trumpet Sound Was Heard.
===========

Jewish Roots: The Sound Of The Trumpet
For if the Trumpet makes an uncertain sound, who will prepare for battle?
(1 Corinthians 14:8).

The Apostle Paul used the Roman military trumpet as a metaphor for spiritual battle. First-century historian Josephus wrote that the Roman army did nothing, except by trumpet signals. He listed three specific trumpet sounds, all of which can be devotionally applied.

The first trumpet was a signal to prepare to depart. "Now when they are to go out of their camp, the trumpet gives a sound."(1) The Bible believer should be ready to depart swiftly for any field of conflict as ordered, always ready to fight the good fight of faith (1 Tim. 6:12; 2 Tim. 4:7).

The second trumpet was a signal to form up: "Then do the trumpets sound again, to order them to get ready for the march."(1) At this stage, a believer should have on the whole armor of God.
The Lord wants skilled warriors, lined up with others, who will do battle against the wiles of the Devil (Eph. 6:11).

The third trumpet sound was the order to march: "Then do the trumpets give a sound a third time, that they are to go out."(1) Some have suggested that this is the equivalent of "the last trumpet" that Paul referred to in 1 Corinthians 15:52 concerning the Rapture of the church: Behold, I tell you a mystery: We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed--in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed (1 Cor. 15:51-52).

This trumpet may also point to the personal resolve of a believer to march out to serve Christ, to stand against all challenges to God's kingdom, and to be willing to endure hardships like a good soldier (2 Tim. 2:3).

Additional Note on the Seven Words from the Cross
We have not been given a fourfold gospel so that we should create a single gospel from it. Therefore there can never be certainty about our reconstructions. The fact that the scheme suggested contains an inner harmony does not guarantee its accuracy.

The most likely order of the seven words seems to be: — 1. The prayer of Lk. 23:34. 2. The promise to the penitent robber (Lk. 23:43). 3. The words to Mary and John (Jn 19:26 f). 4. The cry of dereliction (Mt. 27:46; Mk. 15:34). 5. ‘I thirst’ (Jn 19:28). 6. ‘It is finished’ (Jn 19:30; Mt 27:50). 7. The final prayer (Lk. 23:46).

I just saw this today while posting on some earlier threads.
Has anyone ever noticed this correlation between Joshua 6 and Revelation?

Joshua 6

4
Have seven Priests carry seven trumpets of rams' horns in front of the Ark.
Then on the seventh day, march around the city seven times, while the Priests blow the trumpets.

13
Then seven Priests bearing seven trumpets of rams' horns before the Ark of the LORD went on continually and blew with the trumpets.
And the armed men went before them.
But the rear guard came after the Ark of the LORD, while the Priests continued blowing the trumpets.

Revelation 8:
2

And I saw the seven Messengers which stood before God,
and to them were given seven trumpets.
6
And the seven Messengers the ones having the seven trumpets make ready themselves that they should be trumpeting<4537>.

Yes, Joshua is the type. Revelation the reality.

Joshua
6 days 1 Trumpet each
7th day 7 Trumpets and destruction

Revelation
6 Trumpets
7th Trumpet contains the 7 Last Plagues and destruction

Rev 11:15 And the seventh angel sounded; and there were great voices in heaven, saying, The kingdoms of this world are become the kingdoms of our Lord, and of his Christ; and he shall reign for ever and ever.
Rev 11:16 And the four and twenty elders, which sat before God on their seats, fell upon their faces, and worshipped God,
Rev 11:17 Saying, We give thee thanks, O Lord God Almighty, which art, and wast, and art to come; because thou hast taken to thee thy great power, and hast reigned.
Rev 11:18 And the nations were angry, and thy wrath is come, and the time of the dead, that they should be judged, and that thou shouldest give reward unto thy servants the prophets, and to the saints, and them that fear thy name, small and great; and shouldest destroy them which destroy the earth.

Rev 15:1 And I saw another sign in heaven, great and marvellous, seven angels having the seven last plagues; for in them is filled up the wrath of God.

There is also a connection to Egypt and the 10 Plagues and Revelation and the 7 Last Plagues prefaced by the 3 Woes (of which we are almost to the 3rd).

I liked the 7 words. Sounds like 7 thunders, Revelation 10:3-4, but I know the events therein already have taken place, however, there may be something deeper I will need to look at. Thank you for sharing.

Also if one looks carefully, one will notice that the leaders ("angels". messengers) of the 7 Churches are the ones blowing the 7 Trumpets:

Rev 8:2 And I saw the seven angels which stood before God; and to them were given seven trumpets.
Rev 8:3 And another angel came and stood at the altar, having a golden censer; and there was given unto him much incense, that he should offer it with the prayers of all saints upon the golden altar which was before the throne.

7 angels, then follows another "angel" (Jesus) as the High Priest and the incense.

If you compare to Revelation 1, you will see the same order:

Rev 1:12 And I turned to see the voice that spake with me. And being turned, I saw seven golden candlesticks;
Rev 1:13 And in the midst of the seven candlesticks one like unto the Son of man, clothed with a garment down to the foot, and girt about the paps with a golden girdle.

7 followed by Jesus.

the 7 "angels" are identified:

Rev 1:20 The mystery of the seven stars which thou sawest in my right hand, and the seven golden candlesticks. The seven stars are the [7] angels of the seven churches: and the seven candlesticks which thou sawest are the seven churches.

Isa_58:1 Cry aloud, spare not, lift up thy voice like a trumpet, and shew my people their transgression, and the house of Jacob their sins.

John was even told how to write Revelation (structure-wise):

Rev 1:12 And I turned to see the voice that spake with me. And being turned, I saw seven golden candlesticks;

Rev 1:19 Write the things which thou hast seen, and the things which are, and the things which shall be hereafter;

Thus the shape of the book of Revelation in the shape of the 7 Branch Candlestick (Psalms 77:13) as shown in the link previous.

thanks for your thoughts!

events while on the cross seem to have followed Psalm 22 -- if Jesus quoted from the Psalm's verses in order, then that would affect how we order Jesus' 7 sayings

The most likely order of the seven words seems to be:
1. The prayer of Lk. 23:34. = Psalm 22:18
2. The promise to the penitent robber (Lk. 23:43) = Psalm 22:7-8
3. The words to Mary and John (Jn 19:26 f).
4. The cry of dereliction (Mt. 27:46; Mk. 15:34). = Psalm 22:1
5. ‘I thirst’ (Jn 19:28). = Psalm 22:15
6. ‘It is finished’ (Jn 19:30; Mt 27:50). = Psalm 22:25, 31
7. The final prayer (Lk. 23:46). = Psalm 31:5, cp. Psalm 31:22 = Daniel 9:26, Messiah is "cut off" and has nothing

"Cry of Dereliction" = Ps 22:1

In fact, back to the OP just a second, Jesus (our Joshua), Son of the Eternal was with Joshua (son of Nun (meaning son of the perpetual/eternal)) at Jericho:

Jos 5:13 And it came to pass, when Joshua was by Jericho, that he lifted up his eyes and looked, and, behold, there stood a man over against him with his sword drawn in his hand: and Joshua went unto him, and said unto him, Art thou for us, or for our adversaries?
Jos 5:14 And he said, Nay; but as captain of the host of the LORD am I now come. And Joshua fell on his face to the earth, and did worship, and said unto him, What saith my lord unto his servant?
Jos 5:15 And the captain of the LORD'S host said unto Joshua, Loose thy shoe from off thy foot; for the place whereon thou standest is holy. And Joshua did so.

Originally “Oshea” (Numbers 13:8,16), aka “Hoshea” (Deuteronomy 32:44) (both of which mean “deliverer”) is later named “Jehoshua” (Numbers 13:16; 1 Chronicles 7:27), aka “Joshua” (Deuteronomy 34:9; 1 Kings 16:34) (both of which means “JEHOVAH is salvation/saviour”), aka “Jesus” (dualistic: Acts 7:45; Hebrews 4:8), and the Son of God is also named “Jesus” (Matthew 1:21,25; Luke 1:31, 2:21; (dualistic:) Acts 7:45; Hebrews 4:8), for it means, “he shall save his people from their sins.” (Matthew1:21) for he is, JEHOVAH E/Immanuel the Saviour (Psalms 46:7,11; Isaiah 7:14, 8:8,10; Matthew 1:23; Acts 13:23; Philippians 3:20; 2 Timothy 1:10; Titus 1:4, 2:13, 3:6; 2 Peter 1:1,11, 2:20, 3:18, etc), and in the OT, is also named “salvation”, aka [H3444] “yeshû‛âh” (Genesis 49:18; Exodus 14:13; 2 Chronicles 20:17; Jonah 2:9; Psalms 119:174).

Joshua (the son of Nun (Non) (Numbers 13:8,16; Deuteronomy 32:44, 34:9; 1 Kings 16:34; 1 Chronicles 7:27), and “Nun/Non” means “perpetuity” (forever, eternal)) and so Jesus is the Son of the eternal Father (Mark 14:61; John 6:69, 10:36, etc).

Joshua served/ministered (Exodus 17:9-10, 24:13, 33:11; Numbers 11:28; Joshua 1:1, 14:7) under the elder Moses (as “god” to Pharaoh (Exodus 7:1), and whose face shone as the light (Exodus 34:29-30,35; 2 Corinthians 3:7,13), and whose hair was hoary/white (Leviticus 19:32), and whose name 'Moses', means to be from the midst of the waters (Exodus 2:10), and was very old, “his eye was not dim, nor his natural force abated.” (Deuteronomy 34:7)) and Jesus also ministered (Matthew 20:26,28; Mark 10:43,45; Romans 15:8; Hebrews 8:2) under His Father's instruction (Proverbs 8:22-36; John 5:30, John 17:4,8,14,16), who is “God” (Genesis 1:1; Jeremiah 10:10; John 1:1,18, 5:18, 6:27, 17:3; 1 Thessalonians 1:9; 1 John 5:20, etc), whose face shines as the light (Revelation 4:3), and whose hair is hoary/white (Daniel 7:9), and dwells amidst the waters (Job 9:8; Psalms 18:11, 29:3, 77:19, 93:4), and is the Ancient of Days (Job 12:12; Daniel 7:9,13,22).

Joshua was one of the twelve tribes (Numbers 13:8), so was Jesus (Matthew 2:6; Hebrews 7:14; Revelation 5:5).

Joshua was connected to a “Joseph” (Genesis 41:52, 46:20, 48:1,5,13-14,17,20, 50:23; Numbers 13:8, 26:28,37; Joshua 14:4, 16:4, 17:17 , etc), so also Jesus (“Joseph”, the step-father (Matthew 1:16,18-20,24, 2:13,19; Luke 1:27, 2:4,16,33,43, 3:23; John 1:45, 6:42) and “Joseph” of Arimathea (Matthew 27:57,59; Mark 15:43,45; Luke 23:50; John 19:38) and other “Joseph” (Luke 3:24,26,30))

Joshua was told to choose out men to combat the opposing forces (Exodus 17:9), Jesus also (Luke 6:13; John 6:70; Romans 1:1).

Joshua led the twelve tribes (Joshua 3:12, 4:2-4,8-9,20), so too Jesus the twelve apostles (Luke 6:13; John 6:70).

Joshua was victorious over the adversaries (Exodus 17:13), so too Jesus (Psalms 98:1-3; Colossians 2:15).

Joshua went down into the Jordan river (Joshua 1:2, 3:8), as did Jesus (Matthew 3:13,16; Mark 1:9; Luke 3:3,21; John 1:28-34).

God was with Joshua (Joshua 1:5,9,17, 3:10), as with Jesus (John 8:29, 11:42, 16:32).

Joshua obeyed God's Commandments (Joshua 1:7-8, 11:14), Jesus obeyed His Father's Commandments (Deuteronomy 18:16,18; John 12:49-50, 15:10).

Whosoever would not hearken unto Joshua was to be put to death (Joshua 1:18), and so likewise with Jesus (Deuteronomy 18:15,19; Acts 3:22-23; Hebrews 2:3, 12:25-26).

Joshua sent out men by two (Joshua 2:1,4,23), so did Jesus (Mark 6:7; Luke 10:1).

Joshua came out of Egypt (Exodus 12:17; Joshua 2:10; Acts 7:40; Hebrews 3:16, 8:9), so did Jesus (Hosea 11:1; Matthew 2:13-15,19)

Joshua saves a remnant, a woman and her family, from a doomed populace (Joshua 2:13, 6:23,25), so does Jesus (Matthew 1:21; Romans 9:27, 11:5; Revelation 12:17).

All the land was given into the hand of Joshua (Joshua 2:24), so too Jesus (John 13:3; Revelation 21:1,7).

Joshua was to cast out 7 wicked nations (Joshua 3:10), Jesus casts out 7 wicked devils (Mark 16:9; Luke 8:2).

Miraculous events happened in the life of Joshua (Joshua 3:1-4:18, 10:12-14), so too with Jesus (Mark 6:52; John 4:54, 6:14, etc).

Joshua was circumcised (Joshua 5:5), so too Jesus (Luke 2:21).

Joshua meets Jesus (Joshua 5:13-15).

Joshua and the Trumpets 6 +7 (Joshua 6:1-16); Jesus and the 6 Trumpets + 7 Plagues (the fullness of the 7th Trumpet) (Revelation 10:7, 11:15, 15:1-8, 16:1-21).

Joshua slays all the wicked in the city (Jericho), and everything therein and burns it by fire (Joshua 6:21,24), and will Jesus (2 Thessalonians 1:8, 2:8).

Joshua had a covetous traitor in his ranks (Joshua 7:1-25, 22:20), so too Jesus (Matthew 26:16; Mark 14:10-11; Luke 22:4,6,64,71; John 6:70, 12:4,6, 13:2,11; Acts 1:16-25).

All the nations fight against Joshua (Joshua 9:1-2, 11:4-5,20,23, 12:1-24), so too Jesus (Revelation 17:12-14, 20:7-10).

Joshua had the people place their feet on their enemies (Joshua 10:24), so will Jesus (Malachi 4:3).

really interesting!

so, the 7 Angels sounding the 7 trumpets were the 7 guardian Angels of the 7 churches ?

the 7 churches' candlesticks combine to create the Menorah in the (spiritual) Temple -- from Wikipedia:

The lamps of the menorah were lit daily from fresh, consecrated olive oil and burned from evening until morning, according to Exodus 27:21.

The Roman-Jewish historian Flavius Josephus states that three of the seven lamps were allowed to burn during the day also; however, according to one opinion in the Talmud (Rashi, Tractate Shabbat 22b), only the center lamp was left burning all day, into which as much oil was put as into the others. Although all the other lights were extinguished, that light continued burning oil, in spite of the fact that it had been kindled first. This miracle according to the Talmud (Tractate Menahot 86b) was taken as a sign that the Shechinah rested over Israel. It was called the ner hama'aravi (Western lamp) because of the direction of its wick. This lamp was also referred to as the ner Elohim (lamp of God), mentioned in I Samuel 3:3. The miracle of the ner hama'aravi ended about 40 years before the destruction of the Temple (c. 30 CE) according to the Talmud (Tractate Yoma 39a), "Our Rabbis taught: During the last forty years before the destruction of the Temple (that is to say from around 30 CE) the lot [‘For the Lord’] did not come up in the right ...hand; nor did the crimson-coloured strap become white; nor did the westernmost light shine"

Symbolism
Judaism
The menorah symbolized the ideal of universal enlightenment. The idea that the Menorah symbolizes wisdom is noted in the Talmud, for example, in the following: "Rabbi Isaac said: He who desires to become wise should incline to the south [when praying]. The symbol [by which to remember this] is that… the Menorah was on the southern side [of the Temple]."

The seven lamps allude to the branches of human knowledge, represented by the six lamps inclined inwards towards, and symbolically guided by, the light of God represented by the central lamp. The menorah also symbolizes the creation in seven days, with the center light representing the Sabbath

really interesting!

so, the 7 Angels sounding the 7 trumpets were the 7 guardian Angels of the 7 churches ?

the 7 churches' candlesticks combine to create the Menorah in the (spiritual) Temple...
Yes. The "angel" of the church of Ephesus sounded the first Trumpet ...

Rev 8:7 The first angel sounded, and there followed hail and fire mingled with blood, and they were cast upon the earth: and the third part of trees was burnt up, and all green grass was burnt up.

The destruction of the Jews in Jerusalem.

Luk_13:1 There were present at that season some that told him of the Galilaeans, whose blood Pilate (Roman) had mingled with their sacrifices.

Which later took place under Titus as Jesus warned of.

Mat 23:35 That upon you may come all the righteous blood shed upon the earth, from the blood of righteous Abel unto the blood of Zacharias son of Barachias, whom ye slew between the temple and the altar.

Mat 23:36 Verily I say unto you, All these things shall come upon this generation.

Mat_27:25 Then answered all the people, and said, His blood be on us, and on our children.

1/3 part of trees, which means there are 3 types of Tree.

[1] Genesis 1 - tree bearing good fruit, with the seed in itself (Christian, follower of God like John the Baptist)

[2] The evil or dead tree, plucked up by the roots, unable to bear any good fruit (wicked, never professed)

[3] The pretentious (hypocritical) tree with leaves, but no good fruit (Matthew 21:19; Mark 11:14)

Mat_3:10 And now also the axe is laid unto the root of the trees: therefore every tree which bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire.

Luk_3:9 And now also the axe is laid unto the root of the trees: every tree therefore which bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire.

Mat 3:12 Whose fan is in his hand, and he will throughly purge his floor, and gather his wheat into the garner; but he will burn up the chaff with unquenchable fire.

Luk 3:17 Whose fan is in his hand, and he will throughly purge his floor, and will gather the wheat into his garner; but the chaff he will burn with fire unquenchable.

Caught up to God and to His Throne: Restructuring Revelation 11-22

the contents of chapter twelve seem to
result from
the seventh trumpet blast beginning at 11:15.
Much like the walls of Jericho crashing down as a
result from
the seventh trumpet blast on the seventh day, so the crashing down of the Òholy cityÓ described in Revelation 11:2 results from its seventh and final trumpet blast.

cp. Jesus spoke 7 words from the Cross:

Zondervan Bible Commentary (One Volume)

That is very interesting!
Concerning a fourfold Gospel, you and/or others may be interested in this online "The Fourfold Gospel" at this link.
I read thru it about 12 yrs ago and was actually thinking about translating it.
It is pretty in depth and lengthy.

Four Fold Gospel

In preparing this work there has been no sparing of time, labor, or expense. While we have carefully avoided all conceits, quibblings, and useless refinements, and have studied to present only that which was useful, helpful, and practical, we have endeavored to put into the work the results of careful investigation and studious research.
Besides theological treatises and works of reference, a full line of commentaries has been used.

In some few cases, where the sections have been simple, from thirty to fifty commentaries have been consulted; but in the vast majority of sections between eighty and one hundred commentaries have been searched and sifted.
To these painstaking labors of the junior editor, there has been added the results of the wider researches of the senior editor, effected during a half century of continuous Bible study and teaching.
We have not aimed to produce a commentary for the textual critic, the theologian, or the professor; but a plain and simple work for all reader's of God's word.

THE PERIOD OF CHRIST'S LIFE PRIOR TO
HIS MINISTRY.
I.
LUKE'S PREFACE AND DEDICATION.
cLUKE I. 1-4.*

c1 Forasmuch as many [of whom we know nothing and have even no tradition] have taken in hand to draw up a narrative concerning those matters which have been fulfilled [completed, or accomplished according to the divine will] among us, 2 even as they delivered them unto us, which from the beginning were eyewitnesses [the apostles were necessarily such and there were some few others--Acts i. 21-23] and ministers of the word [the apostles were ministers, and not ecclesiastical dignitaries], 3; it seemed good to me also, having traced the course of all things accurately from the first [and being therefore thoroughly fitted to write the gospel], to write unto thee in order [not in chronological, but in topical order], most excellent Theophilus [Luke also dedicated the Book of Acts to this man. Nothing is known of Theophilus, but he is supposed to have been a Greek of high official rank]; 4 that thou mightest know the certainty [might have a [1] fixed written record, and not trust to a floating, variable tradition or a treacherous memory] concerning the things [the gospel facts] wherein thou wast instructed.

* NOTE.--The four Gospels are respectively represented in this volume by the superior letters a, b, c, and d; and variations in the readings of the four Gospels are inserted in braces, thus: { }.

II.
JOHN'S INTRODUCTION.
dJOHN I. 1-18.

d1 In the beginning was the Word [a title for Jesus peculiar to the apostle John], and the Word was with God [not going before nor coming after God, but with Him at the beginning], and the Word was God. [Not more, not less.] 2 The same was in the beginning with God. 3 All things were made through him [the New Testament often speaks of Christ as the Creator--see ver. 10; I. Cor. viii. 6; Col. i. 13, 17; Heb. i. 2]; and without him was not anything made that hath been made. [This shows that Jesus himself is not a creature.] 4 In his was life [As in the Father (chap. v. 26). As this life animates the living, so can it reanimate the dead--John xi. 25]; and the life was the light of men. [The life of Jesus is the light of men, because from that life we get our intellect and understanding, and because that life formed and governs the creation around us by which we become enlightened as to the existence and power of God--Rom. i. 18-21; Acts xiv. 16, 17.] 5 And the light shineth in the darkness [an ignorant, benighted world];and the darkness apprehended it not. [Did not receive or admit it. Jesus, the Light of the world, was despised and rejected by men.] 6 There was a man sent from God, whose name was John. 7 The same came for witness, that he might bear witness of the light. [that he might tell men that Jesus was the Messiah], that all [who heard his testimony] might believe [in Jesus] through him. 8 He was not the light ["He was the lamp that burneth and shineth" (chap. v. 35); but not the Sun of righteousness-- [2] Mal. iv. 2], but came that he might bear witness of the light. 9 There was the true light [as opposed to the imperfect, incomplete, and transitory lights], even the light which lighteth every man [all men are enlightened in some degree and enlightened of Christ: some by nature, some by conscience, and some by Bible revelation],coming into the world. 10 He was in the world. [invisibly present, renewing and sustaining his creation],and the world was made through him, and the world knew him not. [Though it might and should have known him--Rom. i. 18-21; Acts xiv. 16, 17.] 11 He came [visibly in the flesh] unto his own [his own land or possessions--Hos. ix. 3; Jer. ii. 7; Zech. ii. 12], and they that were his own [the children of Israel--Ex. xix. 5; Deut. vii. 6; xiv. 2] received him not. 12 But as many as received him [whether Jew or Gentile], to them gave he the right to become children of God [comp. Rom. iii. 14-17; Gal. iii. 26; iv. 6, 7; I. John iii. 1, 2], even to them that believe on his name: 13 who were born, not of blood [descent from Abraham, David or any other godly person does not make a man a child of God--Luke iii. 8; Matt. iii. 9; ch. viii. 39, 40; Gal. iii. 6, 7, 29], nor of the will of the flesh [the efforts and exertions of our own human hearts and natures may reform, but can not regenerate, the life--ch. iii. 6], nor of the will of man [we are not begotten of God by the acts and deeds of our fellow-men, however much they may aid us in leading right lives], but of God. [Ch. iii. 5; I. John iv. 7; v. 1.] 14 And the Word became flesh [by being born in Bethlehem of the Virgin Mary], and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory [in his miracles, and especially in his transfiguration--ch. ii. 11; II. Pet. i. 16-18], glory as of the only begotten from the Father) [such glory as was suitable to the Son of God], full of grace and truth. [The glory of Christ was not in pomp and worldly grandeur, but in the holiness, grace, and truth of his daily life.] 15 John [the Baptist] beareth witness of him [the words of John the Baptist still witness to unbelieving Jews and Gentiles], and crieth, [3] saying, This was he of whom I said [John had preached about Jesus before Jesus appeared; he now points to Jesus as the one about whom he had preached], He that cometh after me [He for whom I as a forerunner have prepared the way--Matt. iii. 3] is become before me [is worthy of more honor and reverence than am I]: for he was before me. [Though born into the world six months later than John, Jesus, as the Word, had existed from eternity. (In verse 16 the words are the apostle John's, and not John the Baptist's.)] 16 For of his fulness [Jesus was full of grace and truth--and all the attributes of God--Eph. i. 23; iii. 19; iv. 13; Col. i. 19; ii. 9] we all received [by union with him all his perfection and righteousness became ours--Phil. i. 10, 11; iii. 8, 9; I. Cor. i. 30], and grace for grace. [This may mean that we receive a grace kindred to or like each several grace that is in Christ (Rom. viii. 29; xii. 2; Eph. iv. 11-13). But it more probably means fullness of grace, or fresh grace daily added to the grace already bestowed.] 17 For the law [the Old Dispensation with its condemnation (Rom. iii. 20; Gal. ii. 21) and its types and shadows--Col. ii. 16, 17; Heb. viii. 4, 5; x. 1] was given through Moses [by angels at Mt. Sinai--Heb. ii. 2]; grace and truth [the New Dispensation with its justification (Rom. iii. 21-26) and its realities--Heb. ix. 1-15] came through Jesus Christ. [Heb. i. 1, 2; ii. 3.] 18 No man hath seen God at any time [I. John iv. 12, 20; ch. i. 18; I. Tim. vi. 16]; the only begotten Son [the word "only begotten" indicates that none other bears with Christ a like relationship to God],who is in the bosom of the Father [who bears the closest and tenderest relationship and fellowship as to the Father], he hath declared him. [Ch. iii. 2; ch. xv. 9; Col. i. 15.] [4]

Great post!
I will have to look at it more in depth as I get time.
Thanks for posting and mentioning the Destruction of Jerusalem in 70AD......
Here are a few links I have come up with and please add more in relation to the "trumpets".

The Sound Of The Trumpet

Josephus also noted that before the army marched out, the soldiers raised their right hands high and shouted in martial fury, "We are ready!" Are you?

The Destruction of Jerusalem - George Peter Holford, 1805AD

History records few events more generally interesting than the destruction of Jerusalem, and the subversion of the Jewish state, by the arms of the Romans. -- Their intimate connexion with the dissolution of the Levitical economy, and the establishment of Christianity in the world ; the striking verification which they afford of so many of the prophecies, both of the Old and New Testament, and the powerful arguments of the divine authority of the Scriptures which are thence derived..........

7 trumpets echoes the fall of Jericho to (the first) Joshua?

foreshadows the fall of the walls of Jerusalem?
The Messengers in Revelation appear to be a type of Priests, as they are shown coming out of the Holy Place of the Sanctuary....
These events are so awesome!

G3485 Sanctuary(YLT)

Rev 14:15
and another Messenger did come forth out of the Sanctuary crying in a great voice to him who is sitting upon the cloud, 'Send forth thy sickle and reap, because come to thee hath the hour of reaping, because ripe hath been the harvest of the earth;'
Rev 14:17
And another Messenger did come forth out of the Sanctuary that is in the heaven, having -- he also -- a sharp sickle,

Rev 15:6
and come forth did the seven Messengers having the seven plagues, out of the Sanctuary<3485>, clothed in linen, pure and shining, and girded round the breasts with golden girdles:
Rev 15:8
and filled was the Sanctuary with smoke from the glory of God, and from His power,
and no one was able to enter into the Sanctuary till the seven plagues of the seven messengers may be finished.
