Joseph was stripped of his garments and falsely accused of sin
A number of years ago I read the story of Joseph who was stripped of his garments, falsely accused by Potiphar's wife and imprisoned where he met the cupbearer and baker.

Joseph stripped 1.png

It was shortly after this when I realized Joseph is a type for Jesus who was falsely accused of sin by the religious leaders of Israel, stripped of his garments and crucified with two thieves, Genesis 39, 40, Matthew 27:38.

Joseph's garment that was taken by Potiphar's wife is a picture for Jesus righteousness that was set aside when he was made to be sin for us as he was being apprehended like a criminal in the garden of Gethsemane, 2Cor 5:21.

2 Corinthians 5:21 For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.

Isaiah 53:4 Surely he has borne our griefs and carried our sorrows; yet we esteemed him stricken, smitten by God, and afflicted.

Jesus grabbed 1.png

The spiritual picture for Jesus robe of righteousness that was removed as he was being judged for the sins of naked and unrighteous mankind is revealed by the young man who was stripped of his linen cloth and ran away naked when Jesus was seized by the religious leaders of Israel.

Mark 14:48-52 And Jesus said to them, "Have you come out as against a robber, with swords and clubs to capture me? (51) And a young man followed him, with nothing but a linen cloth about his body. And they seized him, (52) but he left the linen cloth and ran away naked.

The cupbearer was released from prison after 3 days
When Joseph was in prison he met the cupbearer to the king who had a dream of a vine with 3 branches budding. Joseph interpreted the dream and said the cupbearer would be released from prison after 3 days.

The cupbearer who was set free after 3 days represents the prisoners of sin and death who are set free by faith in Jesus death for their sins and his resurrection after 3 days, Romans 10:8-10.

Matthew 27:52-53 The tombs also were opened. And many bodies of the saints who had fallen asleep were raised, (53) and coming out of the tombs after his resurrection they went into the holy city and appeared to many.

After the cupbearer was released Joseph remained a prisoner for another two whole years. The 2 whole years of Joseph's imprisonment is prophetic for the 2,000 year message of the gospel that began from Jesus resurrection.

After two whole years Joseph was released from prison to interpret Pharaoh's dreams and he said there would be 7 years of harvest followed by 7 years of famine. This I believe is prophetic for a 7 year end-time harvest of saints and the 7 years of tribulation, Rev 14:14-19.

The approximate years for the tribulation
Jesus was resurrected in approximately 30 to 33 AD. Therefore the 2,000 year gospel age (two whole years) should be completed around 2030 to 2033 and will be followed by the 7 years of tribulation that will end in the 2037 to 2040 time-frame.

2,000 Joseph chart 1.png

For a more concise look at the symbolic details in this account of Josephs life read the rest of his story.

Joseph meets the cupbearer and baker in prison
Genesis 40:1, 3, Some time after this, the cupbearer of the king of Egypt and his baker committed an offense against their lord the king of Egypt. (3) and he put them in custody in the house of the captain of the guard, in the prison where Joseph was confined.

The cupbearer dreamed of a vine with 3 branches that budded
The cupbearer dreamed of a vine with 3 branches that budded and its blossoms shot forth and the clusters ripened into grapes. Joseph interpreted the cupbearer's dream and said he would be released from prison after 3 days and shall place Pharaoh's cup into his hand as before, Genesis 40:9-13.

In the scriptures the vine is symbolic for Jesus and his saints are the branches that grow and bear spiritual fruit by abiding in Christ through faith, John 15:4-5.

The cupbearer who dreamed of 3 branches bearing fruit that was released from prison after 3 days represents the saints who are set free from their captivity to sin and produce spiritual fruit for God by faith in Jesus death and resurrection.

Words that connect two related scriptures together
It's important to understand that similar words, phrases and numbers at times are used by God to connect a particular scripture or thought in one story, to explain a puzzling word or phrase in another story. And when these two related stories are placed side by side they often reveal deeper insights, revelations, and hidden prophecies that are concealed in a scripture.

Nehemiah, the repentant cupbearer to the king
For example, the word cupbearer is mentioned just once more in Nehemiah 1:11. In this chapter Nehemiah is a cupbearer to the king who earnestly prayed that God would forgive Israel's sin as well as his own sins.

Nehemiah also prayed that Israel would return to their land so the broken down walls of Jerusalem could be rebuilt, Nehemiah 1:8-10. In other words Nehemiah is a branch that desires to produce spiritual fruit by following Lord's will (the vine) through encouraging the people of Israel to turn back to God and return to their land.

Now compare Nehemiah the repentant cupbearer to the thief on the cross who confessed his sins and rebuked the other thief saying, (40) "Do you not fear God, since you are under the same sentence of condemnation? (41) And we indeed justly, for we are receiving the due reward of our deeds; but this man has done nothing wrong." (42) And he said, "Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom." (43) And he said to him, "Truly, I say to you, today you will be with me in Paradise." Luke 23:40-43

Nehemiah the humble cupbearer, and the cupbearer who was set free from prison after 3 days, are symbolic for the repentant thief on the cross who went with Jesus to paradise, and those who seek God's mercy and forgiveness so they too can be set free from their prison of sin by faith in Christ's death and resurrection after 3 days.

The baker dreamed of 3 baskets of baked foods on his head
The baker also had a dream of 3 baskets of baked foods on his head that the birds were eating. Joseph interpreted the baker's dream and said the 3 baskets represented 3 days when he would be hung on a tree.

The symbolic meaning of the baker's dream of 3 baskets of baked foods on his head that resulted in his death is a puzzling mystery unless there is another scripture that can help to explain what this peculiar story represents.

cupbearer 2.png

Genesis 40:16-19 When the chief baker saw that the interpretation (of the cupbearer) was favorable, he said to Joseph, "I also had a dream: there were three cake baskets on my head, (17) and in the uppermost basket there were all sorts of baked food for Pharaoh, but the birds were eating it out of the basket on my head." (18) And Joseph answered and said, "This is its interpretation: the three baskets are three days. (19) In three days Pharaoh will lift up your head--from you!--and hang you on a tree. And the birds will eat the flesh from you."

The baker ceases to stir the fire until the dough is leavened
The word “baker” is mentioned just once more in Hosea 7:1-8. In this story Hosea addresses the iniquity of Ephraim and the evil deeds of Samaria saying, Israel deals falsely, they are all adulterers who are like a baker who ceases to stir the fire until the dough is leavened (and unfit to eat), worthless as a half baked cake (a cake not turned).

Hosea 7:1-4, 8 When I would heal Israel, the iniquity of Ephraim is revealed, and the evil deeds of Samaria; for they deal falsely; the thief breaks in, and the bandits raid outside. (2) But they do not consider that I remember all their evil. Now their deeds surround them; they are before my face. (3) By their evil they make the king glad, and the princes by their treachery. (4) They are all adulterers; they are like a heated oven whose baker ceases to stir the fire, from the kneading of the dough until it is leavened. (8) “The people of Israel mingle with godless foreigners, making themselves as worthless as a half-baked cake! (New Living translation)

In Hosea 7, the baker's leavened half-baked cake that's symbolic for Israel's sinful deeds, reveals the baker's dream of baked foods on his head represents our leavened works of sin and unrighteousness.

Leaven that destroys the life within wheat is symbolic for sin, self-righteousness and false doctrine that corrupts the truth of God's Holy Word, Mark 8:15.

In Amos 4:4-5, a sacrifice that is leavened represents boasting about our corrupted self-righteous deeds. If we boast in our self-righteous works it puffs up our head with sinful pride that's like leavened baked foods on our head.

Amos 4:4-5 "Come to Bethel, and transgress; to Gilgal, and multiply transgression; bring your sacrifices every morning, your tithes every three days; (5) offer a sacrifice of thanksgiving of that which is leavened, and proclaim freewill offerings, publish them; for so you love to do, O people of Israel!" declares the Lord GOD.

The story of the self-righteous Pharisee and the humble tax collector is an excellent example of puffed up leavened pride that comes from boasting in our worthless works of self-righteousness, Luke 18:9-14.

Just as leaven distorts and destroys the life within wheat, trusting in our self-righteous works to be saved leavens and destroys the truth of eternal life by grace alone through faith alone that is revealed throughout God's Word (the unleavened wheat).

God's unleavened Word reveals we are unworthy sinners who need to humble ourselves of our puffed up leavened pride and ask the Lord for his mercy and forgiveness of our sins.

Psalms 51:17 The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit; a broken and contrite heart, O God, you will not despise.

The dream of the baked foods on the head of the baker who was hung on a tree is prophetic for the unrepentant thief on the cross who mocked Jesus and perished, Luke 23:39.

And baked foods on the head is an accurate symbolic description for a person who is puffed up with pride in their leavened self-righteous works so they can justify themselves before God, but instead they will be judged for their sins and eternally cursed in hell just as the baker was hung on a tree.

Proverbs 30:12 There is a generation that are pure in their own eyes, and yet is not washed from their filthiness.

Joseph was in prison for two whole years after the cupbearer was set free
The cupbearer was set free from prison after 3 days while Joseph who was innocent remained a prisoner for another two whole years until he was released to interpret Pharaoh's dream of seven healthy cows that were eaten by seven ugly cows, Genesis 41:1-15.

The phrase two whole years is mentioned again in Acts 28:30. Therefore it's wise to examine how this second phrase of 'two whole years' is used to see if it might reveal the meaning for Joseph's two whole years of imprisonment.

The two thousand year gospel to the Gentiles (two whole years)
In Acts 28:23-31, Paul proclaimed the gospel of Christ to the Jews first, however due to the dullness of their hearts he was sent to preach the gospel to the Gentiles. And for two whole years Paul proclaimed the kingdom of God to all who came to him.

Prophetically speaking the 2 whole years that Paul preached Christ's salvation to all who came to him represents the 2,000 year message of the gospel that's being declared to all the Gentiles throughout the world.

7 years of harvest and 7 years of famine
After two whole years Joseph was released from prison to interpret Pharaoh's dreams and he said they represented 7 years of harvest followed by 7 years of famine. Joseph was then put in charge of the harvest and famine submitting himself only to Pharaoh.

Joseph who was second in authority during the 7 years of harvest and famine is symbolic for Jesus who will be ruling in power during the 7 year end-time harvest of saints and the 7 years of tribulation under the authority of his Father in heaven, Genesis 41:1-46, Matthew 13:36-43, Luke 3:17, Rev 14:14-19.

The approximate years for the tribulation
Jesus was resurrected in approximately 30 to 33 AD. Therefore the 2,000 year gospel age to the Gentiles (two whole years) that began from the resurrection should be completed around 2030 to 2033, and followed by 7 years of tribulation that will end in the 2037 to 2040 time-frame.

If the tribulation ends in 2037 to 2040, those who were born in 1948 when Israel became a nation will be approximately 89 to 92 years old when Jesus returns to save a remnant of Israel at the end of the tribulation.

And the generation that was alive when Israel (the fig tree) blossomed into a nation in 1948 will not completely pass away before all things are fulfilled, Matthew 24:34.

Below are several articles that examine the scriptures regarding the possible time-frame for the tribulation.

Is the year when the tribulation ends written in scripture?

Hi ya mindlight,
Deep truth has said a lot of what I think.
I have got a lot of information from YouTube concerning Jubilee years and Christ's coming. They reveal that if Jesus started His ministry in maybe 27ad when He read from Isaiah in the synagogue, it being a Jubilee year, then two thousand years is 40 Jubilees. The scriptures states that God will only contend with man for 120 years. If they are Jubilee years, there will be 80 years (4000 yrs) for old testament and 40 years (2000 ) for new testament with man ruling the ages.
So God willing, Christ could come in 2027.

Jesus said that we couldn't know the day or hour but didn't say that we couldn't know the year or season.
Hope that I havent made this sound too complicated!

I appreciated your comments Nancy2. Welcome to the Forum.

I believe that Jesus hides his deeper truths in scripture because he wants us to seek him with all of our heart. And it seems there are deeper and deeper levels of knowing Jesus and what he is saying to us in his Spirit revealed Word. And as we are drawing closer to the time of the end the Lord is unsealing more of his prophetic mysteries to those in his body who want to know Jesus intimately.

Daniel 12:4 But you, Daniel, shut up the words and seal the book, until the time of the end. Many shall run to and fro (through the scriptures), and knowledge (of God's mysterious Word) shall increase."

The article below describes how the Lord gives us progressively deeper levels of understanding if we are seeking to know him. Please keep sharing what the Lord has put in your heart that will bless the other members of his body.

Why did the blind man see men like trees walking when Jesus first touched him?
