John Stott, on singleness

I don't find that reasonable. I'm aware of many people who have fought the call of God, and some have resisted it altogether. It's not an automatic thing, and I simply find Stott's advice to be wise and friendly.

You're entitled to your opinion, of course, but I wanted to be clear on what the article says, so no one would be kept from what they might find to be an edifying read.

It's interesting that you bring this up. I also was one of those people who "fought the call of God", or so I thought. I thought I was called to be a pastor: and I absolutely loathed the idea of it, but I falsely assumed that I loathed God's calling. In running away from what I thought I was called to do, I found what it means to be a true shepard - and it has nothing to do with "church" or what most people usually think that a "pastor" is.

In short, if God does give us a calling, I wouldn't jump to conclusions. With the calling comes the desire and a satisfaction that can only be found by following the call.
