New Mexico's Leaders Say Biden Energy Bans Will Devastate State's Economy

New Mexico’s leaders are worried that Biden’s war on the energy business will devastate the state’s economy, where education, jobs and public programs depend on funding from the industry.

President Joe Biden’s 60-day moratorium on new oil and natural gas leases and drilling permits is prompting widespread concerns in New Mexico, where spending on education and other public programs hinges on the industry’s success.

Top Republicans in the state as well as local leaders in communities that border the Permian Basin — one of the most productive regions in the U.S. — say any moves to make permanent the suspension would be economically devastating for the state. Half of New Mexico’s production happens on federal land and amounts to hundreds of millions of dollars in royalties each year.

not a week in and his economic policies are potentially causing great damage.

Since this administration is committed to addressing climate change it would stand to reason they would follow through with such actions until fully veting the risks caused by fracking.

The people of NM didn't know this when they voted for Biden last November??

I can appreciate the fact that people can be deceived by campaign lies, but this was a campaign promise!

That depends on the audience. Joe said he would end fracking and in other places said he would not.
Technically, that is true. I'm not sure that anyone who cared about the energy industry would be comforted by double talk like that, but what you say is correct. However, there was no doubt about his stance on energy production in the USA overall.

He said he would ban it on federal land, not private or state land. He said he would NOT try to intervene on private or state lands. That's what he was referring to in the Pennsylvania interview.

What Biden said, during the primary season, and in direct response to a news reporter's question about him allowing coal and fracking to continue was this....

No, we would work it out. We would make sure it is eliminated and no more subsidies for either one of those. Any fossil fuel.

*It’s an important difference because the majority of fracking takes place on private land, with only 12% of U.S. natural gas production and nearly a quarter of U.S. oil production coming from federal lands, according to a 2020 study from the American Petroleum Institute, an energy industry group.

*And the president does not even have the power to ban fracking nationally.

Did Biden Break Campaign Promise On Fracking? No—And Here’s Why

Thank you

it contradicts his words quoted in post #9

which joe do we believe?

regardless, there is an entire state suffering for it.

So they have a quote from one mayor supporting the claim and that’s it. Top republicans are complaining but they could only give one example?
