Question. What is the best description of the work of Christ as High Priest in the heavenly Sanctuary of Heb 8:1 - prior to the Dan 7 judgment event that happens before the 2nd coming - according to Dan 7?

================================================

Answer:

It appears that the Bible teaches that Jesus has been in heaven as our High priest since the time of His ascension into heaven. He is the one mediator between God and man - and that confessed sins are being recorded in the Holy Place ministry - in the books for anyone who has even the remotest claim to the Gospel - even if they are not genuine - because the judgment will weed out the fake from the genuine using the rule Christ gives in Matt 7 and the process Paul gives in Romans 2:4-16

1 Tim 2:5 "For there is one God and one Mediator between God and men, the Man Christ Jesus,

Heb 4:14 Therefore, since we have a great high priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession. 15 For we do not have a high priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but One who has been tempted in all things as we are, yet without sin. 16 Therefore let us draw near with confidence to the throne of grace, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.

Zech 6:
13 Yes, He shall build the temple of the Lord.
He shall bear the glory,
And shall sit and rule on His throne;
So He shall be a priest on His throne,
And the counsel of peace shall be between them both.” ’

We say that Heb 8:1-6 applies - for that time.. as well as Heb 9:

Heb 8: 1 " Now this is the main point of the things we are saying: We have such a High Priest, who is seated at the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in the heavens, 2 a Minister of the sanctuary and of the true tabernacle which the Lord erected, and not man.

3 For every high priest is appointed to offer both gifts and sacrifices. Therefore it is necessary that this One also have something to offer. 4 For if He were on earth, He would not be a priest, since there are priests who offer the gifts according to the law; 5 who serve the copy and shadow of the heavenly things, as Moses was divinely instructed when he was about to make the tabernacle. For He said, “See that you make all things according to the pattern shown you on the mountain.” 6 But now He has obtained a more excellent ministry, inasmuch as He is also Mediator of a better covenant, which was established on better promises.

Heb 9:8 The Holy Spirit is signifying this, that the way into the holy place has not yet been disclosed while the outer tabernacle is still standing, 9 which is a symbol for the present time. Accordingly both gifts and sacrifices are offered which cannot make the worshiper perfect in conscience, 10 since they relate only to food and drink and various washings, regulations for the body imposed until a time of reformation.

11 But when Christ appeared as a high priest of the good things to come, He entered through the greater and more perfect tabernacle, not made with hands, that is to say, not of this creation; 12 and not through the blood of goats and calves, but through His own blood, He entered the holy place once for all, having obtained eternal redemption. 13 For if the blood of goats and bulls and the ashes of a heifer sprinkling those who have been defiled sanctify for the cleansing of the flesh, 14 how much more will the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered Himself without blemish to God, cleanse your conscience from dead works to serve the living God?

15 For this reason He is the mediator of a new covenant, so that, since a death has taken place for the redemption of the transgressions that were committed under the first covenant, those who have been called may receive the promise of the eternal inheritance. 16 For where a covenant is, there must of necessity be the death of the one who made it. 17 For a covenant is valid only when men are dead, for it is never in force while the one who made it lives. 18 Therefore even the first covenant was not inaugurated without blood. 19 For when every commandment had been spoken by Moses to all the people according to the Law, he took the blood of the calves and the goats, with water and scarlet wool and hyssop, and sprinkled both the book itself and all the people, 20 saying, “This is the blood of the covenant which God commanded you.” 21 And in the same way he sprinkled both the tabernacle and all the vessels of the ministry with the blood. 22 And according to the Law, one may almost say, all things are cleansed with blood, and without shedding of blood there is no forgiveness.

23 Therefore it was necessary for the copies of the things in the heavens to be cleansed with these, but the heavenly things themselves with better sacrifices than these. 24 For Christ did not enter a holy place made with hands, a mere copy of the true one, but into heaven itself, now to appear in the presence of God for us; 25 nor was it that He would offer Himself often, as the high priest enters the holy place year by year with blood that is not his own. 26 Otherwise, He would have needed to suffer often since the foundation of the world; but now once at the consummation of the ages He has been manifested to put away sin by the sacrifice of Himself.

At some point in the future when both the Holy Place and Most Holy Place antitype ministry in heaven is completed -Jesus' work as our High Priest ends - so He (Jesus – who is God the Son) stands up. So then no longer "seated on His throne as High Priest"

Dan 12:“At that time Michael shall stand up,
The great prince who stands watch over the sons of your people;
And there shall be a time of trouble,
Such as never was since there was a nation,
Even to that time.
And at that time your people shall be delivered,
Every one who is found written in the book.
2 And many of those who sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake,
Some to everlasting life,
Some to shame and everlasting contempt.

I came across this on why Christ is our mediator which was very clear... "
Paul said there is “one mediator…the man Christ Jesus” (1 Timothy 2:5). Jesus was the only one who could fulfill this role. He was qualified because he shared characteristics of both parties.

The deity of Jesus – John began his gospel with this statement about Jesus: “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God” (John 1:1). While on earth, Jesus indicated that He was equal with the Father. When He said, “My Father is working until now, and I Myself am working,” the Jews correctly understood Him to be “making Himself equal with God” by “calling God His own Father” (John 5:17-18). Jesus said elsewhere, “I and the Father are one” (John 10:30). Paul told the Colossians, “For in Him all the fullness of Deity dwells in bodily form” (Colossians 2:9), clearly indicating that Jesus was God in the flesh.

The humanity of Jesus – Paul emphasized this point by referring to Him as “the man Christ Jesus” (1 Timothy 2:5). While “the Word was with God, and…was God” (John 1:1), Jesus also “became flesh, and dwelt among us” (John 1:14). He took on “the form of a bond-servant” and was “made in the likeness of men” and was “found in appearance as a man” (Philippians 2:7-8). Because He lived as one of us, we can have confidence in Him as our “high priest” because we know with certainty that He can “sympathize with our weaknesses” since He “has been tempted in all things as we are, yet without sin” (Hebrews 4:15).

Jesus was qualified to serve as the mediator between God and men because He shared characteristics of both God and men."...Christ Our Mediator - Plain Bible Teaching
