Nonsense, who plunged China into the worst famine in Chinese history?
Chinese Communist Party.

A third of it was weather-related and cyclical. Besides they then proceeded to feed, clothe and house a fifth of the world's population. Just how many Chinese people do you imagine Mao and his government saved from a premature death - while we have been turning them out on the street to sleep rough. Currently, 30,000 in the UK. A heck of a lot more, of course, in the US.

And how many people do you think die every week from starvation and starvation-related illnesses, largely caused by the greed of our capitalist West ? Capitalism is, after all, systematized greed.

And how many did they kill in the chinese holocaust? 65 million and how many babies have they murdered durring their 1 or 2 child policy?

Oh and how many christians have they persecuted and how long has the catholic church had to survive underground in china. Communism is anti God/secular athiesm... that recognises no human rights but those granted by the state that csn be taken away by the state..capitalism just serves communism in that communism is its ultimate end

Paul, please read this:
"According to the government and the Chinese Communist Party (CCP), the Great Famine was caused by a string of natural disasters. Communist historiography refers to it not as the Great Famine but the 'Three Years of Natural Disasters'.... Most Western historians agree that failed government policies and human mismanagement were more culpable than natural disasters. Frank Dikötter describes China’s starving millions as the 'unintended consequences of half baked and poorly executed economic programmes'. The British historian John K. Fairbank describes the heavy loss of life as 'a Mao-made catastrophe… an all time, first class, man made famine'. " (alphahistory.com/chineserevolution/great-chinese-famine/)

Paul, please read these:
"...the Great Leap Forward was responsible for at least 45 million deaths. Between 2 and 3 million of these victims were tortured to death or summarily executed, often for the slightest infraction. People accused of not working hard enough were hung and beaten; sometimes they were bound and thrown into ponds. Punishments for the least violations included mutilation and forcing people to eat excrement. One report dated Nov. 30, 1960, and circulated to the top leadership — most likely including Mao — tells how a man named Wang Ziyou had one of his ears chopped off, his legs tied up with iron wire and a 10-kilogram stone dropped on his back before he was branded with a sizzling tool. His crime: digging up a potato."

"Mao was sent many reports about what was happening in the countryside, some of them scribbled in longhand. He knew about the horror, but pushed for even greater extractions of food.
At a secret meeting in Shanghai on March 25, 1959, he ordered the party to procure up to one-third of all the available grain — much more than ever before. The minutes of the meeting reveal a chairman insensitive to human loss: 'When there is not enough to eat people starve to death. It is better to let half of the people die so that the other half can eat their fill.'

Yes. I, too, read that when Mao found his productivity plans ceased to impress, when the workforce was doing its utmost, he made demonically impossible demands on them, and I don't doubt terrible cruelty and torture was inflicted absolutely unjustifiably simple in terms of what was possible, never mind the wickedness of the response of the Government's de facto enforcers.

Nevertheless, I should like to hear from you both, as regards your estimates of the number of people across the globe, whose premature deaths the West, and the US, in particular, have been responsible for since the end of WWII; and more recently in Russia, the same statistics, when it was pillaged by your multinationals at the break-up of the USSR. Although I suspect the Russians are too ashamed of it, to have produced their own figures.

Fortunately for the Chinese, they were not prepared to let it happen to their country, although the still rapid switch to 'wild and woolly', neoliberal capitalism, albeit Communist-controlled, still caused unutterable hardship and doubtless many more premature deaths to millions of their people, who flocked to the cities looking for often non-existent work.

And what about the rest of the world. You have robbed countless countries of their natural resources - not least, of course, S America, by installing puppet, fascist dictators, who ruthlessly protect the interests of the American multinationals, and their own wealthy quisling supporters. And hideously cruel as the tortures you describe, presumably truthfully, (although you are only fed wall-to-wall propaganda by your MSM), they didn't begin to approach the incredible, sexual depravity of the tortures to which women were subjected by Pinochet's goons - supervised, as were the Argentinian junta's torturers by young American 'lecturers' or 'professors' from that prestigious centre of higher learning, the School of the Americas - still extant, but glorying under a different name, evidently from modesty.

'About 1.56 million people, or about 0.5% of the U.S. population, used an emergency shelter or a transitional housing program between October 1, 2008 and September 30, 2009. ... There were an estimated 57,849 homeless veterans estimated in the United States during January 2013, or 12 percent of all homeless adults.'
- from Wikipedia.

Add to that, the fact that you have no national health service, with all the attendant premature deaths from all manner of sicknesses, that would lead to, as well as the millions of ABORTIONS over the years. Can you imagine what it would be like, sleeping rough, particularly in the winter ? The average age at time of death is in the low forties. The stress has been assessed as equivalent to that suffered by a soldier permanently in the field.

Pardon me if I don't argue with you any more. As Christians, you should not swallow your politicians' propaganda, wholesale, either about your own country's affairs or those of Communist and former communist countries. Because 'sola scriptura', never mind tradition, is unequivocal about the fate of those who fail to see Christ in the face of the destitute and the poor. When doing so, it is Christ you have rejected.

The right wing in the UK are every bit as wicked, but just have had less opportunity with the loss of their empire, though they've been clawing back some of their losses by reprivatizing the utilities, for example - and even parts of the National Health Service.

What we cant do is legitimise one injustice or immoral action by comparing it to another. As Christians especially as Catholic christians we must take the position of being always for the good of human beings over the state because although the state may last 1000 years or more and the person dies after maybe 90 years.. the individual person is always more important than the state because their soul lives for all eternity. Therefore because the individual is eternal and the state does not, the individual superceeds the state and therefore human rights can not be granted from the state nor revoked by the state instead the rights of the state are bestowed on the state by the individuals and can be revoked by the individuals too so long as the individuals do so in acordance and subject to the authority of the source of the rights bestowed on them because they superceed the state so human rights come from that which superceeds the individual and that is the supreme power behind all creation which christians and jews etc call God

Communism or ANY political system that claims to have the authority to violate human rights is usurping God and placing the state as the supreme power over man and creation... it is putting itself in the place of God... it is not only denying God's existance and authority it is boldly rising up against God to overthrow him in order to submit man to their will...any political system that does this is from and of the devil because that is exactly what he tried to do in heaven

Thus left wing nazism or national socialism is evil
Left wing global socialism aka international communism is evil
Capitalism the exploitation of others the infringement, temparory or continued suspension of their human rights for financial gain by other individuals corporations or governments is evil
