Oh, I don’t know, maybe it was your repeated use of Lydia as an example of capitalism and the repeated suggestion she owned the means of production, wage labor, private ownership of a business, despite the lack of evidence for any of it.
All I attributed to Lydia was that she was in business as a dyer, and probably owned dying vats and drying racks. (You responded, as I remember, something to the effect that she may have been merely a seller of dyed cloth--which is also possible--but if there was dyed cloth there must have been dying vats and drying racks somewhere.) All the rest of it came from the article I posted. The evidence from the Bible about the economic arrangements of the time is scanty and inconclusive. We must rely on history and archaeology for most of it. You have not, I hope, supposed that I was trying to "prove" just from the Bible that the elements of capitalism were present.

Capitalism is not the point of the OP - please re-read it.

But the Bible does speak about Capitalism; it just does not directly speak about the more modern construct of "Capitalism" but it does speak directly about the main components and mechanisms of Capitalism. It's no different from the fact that God's Word doesn't speak directly about abusing crystal meth but it does speak directly about the main components of being a crystal meth addict.

See below:

from Definition of CAPITALISM:
capitalism
noun
cap·i·tal·ism | \ ˈka-pə-tə-ˌliz-əm , ˈkap-tə-\
Definition of capitalism

: an economic system characterized by private or corporate ownership of capital goods, by investments that are determined by private decision, and by prices, production, and the distribution of goods that are determined mainly by competition in a free market

Did You Know?
Capital is wealth—that is, money and goods—that's used to produce more wealth. Capitalism is practiced enthusiastically by capitalists, people who use capital to increase production and make more goods and money. Capitalism works by encouraging competition in a fair and open market. Its opposite is often said to be socialism. Where a capitalist economy encourages private actions and ownership, socialism prefers public or government ownership and control of parts of the economy. In a pure capitalist system, there would be no public schools or public parks, no government programs such as Social Security and Medicare, and maybe not even any public highways or police. In a pure socialist system, there wouldn't be any private corporations. In other words, there's just about no such thing as pure capitalism or pure socialism in the modern world.

mammon
noun, often capitalized
mam·mon | \ ˈma-mən \
Definition of mammon

: material wealth or possessions especially as having a debasing influenceyou cannot serve God and mammon— Matthew 6:24 (Revised Standard Version)

From God's Word:
  • Matthew 6:24-25
    “No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or else he will be loyal to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon. “Therefore I say to you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink; nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food and the body more than clothing?
  • James 4:4
    Adulterers and adulteresses! Do you not know that friendship with the world is enmity with God? Whoever therefore wants to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of God.
  • Genesis 15:1
    After these things the word of the LORD came to Abram in a vision, saying, 'Do not be afraid, Abram. I am your shield, your exceedingly great reward.'
  • Isaiah 3:16-24
    Moreover the LORD says:
    “ Because the daughters of Zion are haughty,
    And walk with outstretched necks
    And wanton eyes,
    Walking and mincing as they go,
    Making a jingling with their feet,
    Therefore the Lord will strike with a scab
    The crown of the head of the daughters of Zion,
    And the LORD will uncover their secret parts.”
    In that day the Lord will take away the finery:
    The jingling anklets, the scarves, and the crescents;
    The pendants, the bracelets, and the veils;
    The headdresses, the leg ornaments, and the headbands;
    The perfume boxes, the charms, and the rings;
    The nose jewels, the festal apparel, and the mantles;
    The outer garments, the purses, and the mirrors;
    The fine linen, the turbans, and the robes. And so it shall be:
    Instead of a sweet smell there will be a stench;
    Instead of a sash, a rope;
    Instead of well-set hair, baldness;
    Instead of a rich robe, a girding of sackcloth;
    And branding instead of beauty.

  • Philippians 4:19
    And my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus.
  • 1 Timothy 6:8-11
    And having food and clothing, with these we shall be content. But those who desire to be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and harmful lusts which drown men in destruction and perdition. For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil, for which some have strayed from the faith in their greediness, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows. But you, O man of God, flee these things and pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, gentleness.
God's Word doesn't speak directly about the more modern construct of "Capitalism" but it does speak directly about the main components and mechanisms of Capitalism. It's no different from the fact that God's Word doesn't speak directly about abusing crystal meth but it does speak directly about the main components of being a crystal meth addict.

Those verses do not “speak about the main components of capitalism.” The verses are addressed to people, their behaviors, not any economic system or the components of any economic system.

The verses neither condemn a capitalist for being a capitalist or a person for practicing capitalism. The verses transcend economic systems and apply to the specific behaviors of people. The specific behaviors and principles are not unique to any economic regime. The specific behaviors and principles mentioned in the verses are applicable to other economic regimes. Indeed, throughout history we find people in economic regimes other than capitalism engaged in the very behaviors cautioned against in the verses.

Yes, those verses are applicable to Stalin’s use of components of socialism/communism, specifically collective farming among others, that Stalin imposed on the Ukrainians, resulting in starvation and thousands of deaths. It was illegal for Ukrainians to store food and Stalin’s regime aggressively prosecuted those caught stockpiling food.

Those verses are applicable to Cambodia’s use of collective farming, resulting in famine, starvation, and unlawful to forage and/or store food.

The verses are applicable to those historical examples of socialistic methods being used because the verses aren’t denouncing any particular economic system but human behavior. Human behavior transcends economic regimes. Those verses are speaking to components of capitalism about as much as verses addressing premarital sex as a component of capitalism.

Indeed, those verses, written at a time preceding capitalism, were in reference to the people living at the time, and their behaviors, and did not point to future applicability to a specific, as yet to exist, economic system or its components. The verses, as a general summary, is cautioning against a love for materialistic things, a love that exceeds a love for God.

You’ve misinterpreted the scriptures to say something about capitalism, whether in whole or in regards to parts of capitalism. But those verses aren’t singling out capitalism, neither in part or as a whole.

Fair enough.
