As you may know, America magazine is run by the Jesuits, a prominent order of highly educated Catholic priests. To the surprise of no one, at first America magazine supported the nomination of Brett Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court. Now, in a breathtaking reversal, the editors of "America," have changed sides.

Headline:

The Editors: It is time for the Kavanaugh nomination to be withdrawn

One point made by the article: " ...there is no presumption of confirmability."

A defendant is presumed to be innocent, but there is no presumption that anyone is fit to be on the Supreme Court for the rest of their life.

Nice to see moral conviction from a religious base regarding politics.

The tribalism is so obvious now that the religious right has all but lost any moral credibility it once had.

Promising to see.

Kavanaugh seemed angry and belligerent. He raised his voice in an effort to cut off testimony against him. The media reported other times in his life when he had been untruthful. I do not think he needs to go to jail, but would not support his nomination to the Supreme Court.

But you were okay with it before his testimony??

I noticed this as well. When a committee member asks a question, he turns around and asks them a question. If they say, "Did you get drunk at parties?", Kavanaugh says, "Did you?" This is different from trying to clarify the question. This behavior would not be tolerated from any witness in a courtroom, the witness would simply be told to answer the question. Or, the judge would say, "You're not here to ask the questions." As a Federal judge, Kavanaugh must know this. The question is, why is he allowed to get away with it?
