The "must be careful not to divulge information about personal matters to unauthorized personnel." is one of those double edged sword kind of things, but not to defend nor justify this case because I'm not sitting in the jury.
A church should realize that by allowing someone who has molested children into their congregation is like having services for alcoholics in a liquor store with open bottles everywhere. There are other ways of holding a religious assembly that are much safer. So on the positive side this can be a wake up call for that group to rethink and put in place a policy that will ensure the safety of everyone.
In the meantime let the courts do their job.
