As a Christian site, we do not need to add to the pain of the loss by allowing posts that deny the existence of the virus that killed their loved one. Future post denying the Covid-19 existence, calling it a hoax, will be addressed via the warning system.

"JEB" calls Confederate flag "Racist," has no plans to stop calling himself by "Racist" name

"Jeb" is his nickname, you know, not a given name, so there is no reason why the presidential contender cannot stop using a nickname famously associated with the Confederate officer, "Jeb" Stuart. If any and all references to the Confederacy are, by definition, "Racist," as is currently being argued, this tacit defense of "Racism" by Gov. Bush would seem problematic. Perhaps the best solution would be to move the governor off to a museum display case, as he did with the Confederate flag in Florida when he was governor and as has been suggested as the way to handle the flag issue in South Carolina. Thoughts?

    John Ellis Bush.
    JEB

Or... Jeb! (don't forget the exclamation! It's part of the campaign.)

I'm getting the idea that this guy is trying to throw the game (his election chances, that is). Or is he really a stumblebum who just naturally makes a mistake at every opportunity?

And it shows that it has nada to do with any confederate officer.

Not everyone naturally makes a great impression on the national political stage.

It's actually quite rare for people to be a "natural" when jumping into national politics.

They usually do better than this. He was the governor of an important, populous, and politically divided state, after all.

If this particular battle in the culture wars was going according to common sense, you might have a point. But this is one place where close does count. At least with the devotees.

Not in my experience. I've only seen a few that are "naturals" at the national level.

Jeb obviously has some difficulties, and I am betting if he didn't he would already have run for President.

As things stand he is only in this position because of his family name, which, he doesn't want to even put on his campaign posters.

How are you supposed to show strong leadership qualities when you can't even say your name without equivocating?

You do know that the "JEB" in J.E.B. Stuart's name actually stood for James Ewell Brown, right?

Regardless, even if the name was the same, this is like saying Bob is racist if Robert E Lee went by it.

Comparing a nickname to the very specific symbol of a confederate battle flag is pretty dubious if the poster was seriously implying that, or in the case where they were trying to argue via reduction to the absurd.

    So the argument doesn't work.

That was my point. Are we going to say that James, Ewell, and Brown are racist names, now? ^_^

It would be best if we established some connection to racism before calling things racist.

Unfortunately, sarcasm does not translate well over the internet, especially if it's as close as I came to reality.

We should ban Forrest Gump and any usage of the word Nathan, too. Those also have racist connotations.
