The DOJ is simply waiting until the Committee is through, so that they can work on their cases without worrying about new statements being made before the Committee. But, yes, this is the cautious approach.

I think Trump’s greatest risk is the GA incident. We all heard the taped phone call when he pressures the GA Sec. of State Brad Raffensperger ( a Republican) to “find” enough votes so that he wins GA’s EVs. And he mentions a specific number of votes that will be 1 more that Biden’s vote count. If that’s not solicitation to commit election fraud, then what is? To his credit, Brad made it clear the vote totals were accurate, and he can’t change it. The Fulton Co. Grand Jury just finished their investigation. It’ll be up to DA Fani Willis if he’s indicted. As the link notes, she might indict him for a RICO violation. This is the case to watch.

Not really, from '16 - '20 he was protected by his office. H had a couple of impeachments but with a Republican senate, that was never going to go anywhere.He settled the Trump University fraud case while in office, which only cost him money and some reputation. His Trump Foundation was determined to be fraudulent, so it was shuttered and its officers barred from holding a position in any other charity in the state.

His fortunes have been on the decline since his coup attempt and departure from office. The Mar-A-Lago document theft, the interference with Georgia's election process, his on-going,growing tax problems and obstruction of justice (including witness tampering) may seem ho-hum to you but to most people paying attention, these are appalling and extraordinary.

If he doesn't pass first (euphemism for die), he may very well wind up behind bars which would truly be unprecedented, if well-earned. I have no idea what will happen, but it continues to make the news and to make history.

How do you relate that to Trump stealing the documents, that is a large jump from questionable possession to theft. Trump maintains that he is entitled to have those documents, if he is not then maybe there was a violation of the Presidential Records Act and that is up to the court to decide. There is no Theft Charge pending.

At this point there is a legal question regarding the classification of the documents as well as a legal question regarding Trump having the documents. The courts need to decide both issues before anyone starts deciding that a law has been broken and what should be done about it, if anything.

The US committee investigating the January 6, 2021, Capitol riot has recommended charges against former president Donald Trump.

At its final public hearing, the panel voted unanimously to refer the former president to the Department of Justice on four criminal counts.

They are obstruction of an official proceeding of Congress, conspiracy to defraud the United States, conspiracy to make a false statement, and insurrection.

The department is conducting its own investigation into January 6 and is not compelled to act on the committee's recommendations.

The committee made its case against Mr Trump over nine public hearings.

A preview of the final report of the select committee revealed some of the findings against Mr Trump, including:

• Purposely disseminating false allegations of fraud related to the 2020 presidential election
• Corruptly pressuring vice-president Mike Pence to refuse to count electoral votes
• Attempting to enlist justice department officials to make purposely false statements and thereby aid his effort to overturn the presidential election
• Unlawfully pressuring state officials and legislators to change the results of the election in their states
• Plotting to overturn the election outcome

The full report is expected to be released on Thursday, Australia time. (Wednesday US time)

If you want to know the credibility of the council... look no further than Liz... The recommendations of the council is about as legit as her support from her old constituents.

This whole thing is hype to try to paint Trump badly. For six years he has been under the microscope.... and.... Nothing. Three kangaroo courts, no convictions or indictments.

Now they want his tax details... He waited to have them force the issue.

Now, they have set president and all politicians can have their taxes investigated..

Can't wait for Pelosi, Schiff, Biden, Obama, Hillary....

Do you have information beyond what the media has spoon fed the public? I am certain that Trump has a rebuttal for any charges that are filed and I am almost certain that NO charges will ever be filed, But if I am wrong the courts will decide the legal questions based on evidence and not the public based on the garbage the media feeds them.

All that means is that Trump ran out the clock. The House can't do anything other than investigate and hand off the results to the DOJ, which they've done. If the DOJ sees reason to subpoena Trump, they still have that option.

Either way.... It's still a great big huge nothing burger. The council had absolutely no credibility, no balance of opinion, no evidence and, in the end..... No power.

The DOJ will not waste their time on this.
