Dear Brothers and Sisters,

How very appropriate for “Mary’s Day” to be a time for special prayer to protect the unborn! Mary the Mother of God who conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit, the Incarnate Son of God in her womb, fled to Egypt when the wicked king Herod sought to kill Jesus. Jealous and wanting no other King but himself to rule, Herod ordered all the young boys 2 yrs and younger to be killed. St. Joseph being warned in a dream to take the Child Jesus and His Mother and flee into Egypt saved Jesus from Herod’s wrath.

The evil of sin in this world continues it’s quest to destroy the Goodness God offers, but there will be a day of reckoning – we know – when God’s Justice will prevail. There will be no more weeping but there will be rejoicing in the end when Christ comes again – not as an infant but as the Glorious King of Heaven and earth.

Let us pray today that our country and the countries of the world will see the evil of killing innocent unborn babies and protect them from all those who would do them harm. Let us pray fervently every day to save the the lives of the innocent who cannot defend themselves. Let us hear what God says to us in today’s Alleluia and Gospel:

Alleluia (See Acts 16:14b) - “Open our hearts, O Lord, to listen to the words of your Son”.

Gospel (Mk 3:20-21)

Jesus came with His disciples into the house. Again the crowd gathered, making it impossible for them even to eat. When His relatives heard of this they set out to seize Him, for they said, “He is out of His mind.”
(What a terse Gospel passage and yet how powerfully the Gospel of Mark shows us how little the relatives of Jesus understood Him! Often that is the case in some families – that people “think” they know more than they actually do know. about anyone.)

Only God can plumb the depths of a soul and know that soul. We human beings have a hard time even knowing ourselves – if we are honest, we will admit that, we have a long way to go to rid ourselves of the inordinate “self -love” we have. Only the saints in heaven have won that battle we still wage in the world today.

But God is still a God of Love and Forgiveness. He does not give up on us as long as He sees us struggling to be true to Him and to the prayers of Our Mother Mary. Come Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of Your Faithful as you filled Mary with Jesus, our Way, our Truth and our Life… Renew in us all a steadfast Spirit of Truth – The fullness of Truth Jesus promised You would bring to us, that we may become Holy. We have been called into holiness by our Baptism. Enable us to become all God intends us to be for His Glory and our salvation. Amen.
