Theoretically, it's always possible that evidence could come in, but right now, they have nothing. That's as firm a statement as you can get. I'm sure that if there was any truth to these reports, something would have come in by now, and no, anonymous, unverified claims don't count.
What do you call an allegation made on the basis of no evidence whatsoever?
A fabrication.
What do you call it if any damages result due to such an allegation?
Defamation.
What do you call it what such an allegation is made under oath?
Perjury.
I don't think "lie" is too strong a word here, especially since it routinely gets thrown at the President for far less.
So I introduced you to Chief Pentagon Spokesman Jonathan Hoffman...
He's probably telling the truth. This would explain why he hasn't been briefed on these claims; there's no evidence that they're true. Usually you want to make sure of that before you brief the President.
Thankfully people who actually have to do the investigating of, well, anything don't share your outlook. If they did, the world would have ground to a halt before it even got started. This is how pretty much everything works, from political investigations to the first person to make an omelette. Everything we know is based on starting with some small scraps of information or experience and then building on that until you have a clearer picture. These desperate attempts to close everything down the the narrowest possible definitions are very much like Clinton's desperate attempts to get around having to admit to having sex with an intern. What did he say? It depends what your definition of the word 'is' is? Or somesuch. At some point a person has to draw a line and realise they are just making themselves look foolish.
