Nothing can be known about this week’s talks between North and South Korea other than their likely outcome. As in every previous encounter, South Korea will almost certainly reward North Korea’s outrageous misconduct by handing over substantial sums of money, thus negating long-overdue sanctions recently imposed by the United Nations Security Council. Meanwhile, the North will continue to make progress toward its goal of deploying several nuclear-armed, mobile intercontinental ballistic missiles, having already tested nuclear-explosive devices in October 2006, May 2009, February 2013, January 2016, September 2016, and September 2017

Each test would have been an excellent occasion for the United States to finally decide to do to North Korea what Israel did to Iraq in 1981, and to Syria in 2007 — namely, use well-aimed conventional weapons to deny nuclear weapons to regimes that shouldn’t have firearms, let alone weapons of mass destruction. Fortunately, there is still time for Washington to launch such an attack to destroy North Korea’s nuclear arsenal. It should be earnestly considered rather than rejected out of hand.

Yes, let's start a war that will likely kill thousands, if not millions or billions of people!

Yeah let's just sit and wait till he really launches a nuclear warhead at us like he has claimed many times to do. When someone is developing nuclear weapons and threatens you with destruction you don't wait till they hit you to act.

I've heard from South Koreans that they generally aren't as worried about North Korea as we are because they know when NK starts doing stuff like this, it's really a cry for food and help

Try telling that to North Korea's insane dictator. Insanity does not listen to reason.

He's not insane. He's doing what any smart person would do in his position. And all that you hear from the Western media is largely pure propaganda, not a word of truth in it. Democratic Peoples' Republic of Korea is a good country with wise leadership under strict economic sanctions and military siege for the past 53 years

Let's do nothing and watch as the entire world is destroyed...except we could only watch for so long before...

So far the only country destroying the world in reality is the USA. Many many wars and millions dead. North Korea has never done anything bad and will never do. They simply protect themselves like any country has the right to.

It's time to negotiate peace. Enough of bombing already. Let's make love, not war.

Yeah every administration has done that and gave them money and talks of peace. What do we get out of it? They advance their nuclear program and threaten us with it. They won't listen to peace. Do we let them build nuclear weapons that they themselves said they will hit us with or do we hit them first and prevent them from building such weapons? I think talks are over as the sanctions are doing nothing to curve this situation and every administration has tried bribery and peace that hasn't worked. Let's handle this before they carry out a threat.

This is simply not true. There have been threats and military excerises and military bases all around Korea etc. etc. The only time the USA has signed a treaty with North Korea and North Korea stopped their nuclear program only a few months later for USA to denounce that agreement for no reason!!! Of course North Korea continued their nuclear program. USA is as foolish as it gets.

Riiiiiight...keep telling yourself that, and maybe it's true for you, but not for clueless brainwashed warmongering Westerns. ^_^ Yeah his smarts could get him in deep deep trouble.

Yeah play the typical U.S. card of starting/fighting a war on someone else's doorstep, works every time...

Things like this only really seem like a good idea to people because they happen thousands of miles away and they are never directly or even indirectly affected by their actions.

I feel sorry for the neighbouring countries who will bear the brunt of American aggression and recklessness. It's pure arrogance and selfishness at the expense of others; allies, no less.

“It’s true that North Korea could retaliate for any attack by using its conventional rocket artillery against the South Korean capital of Seoul and its surroundings, where almost 20 million inhabitants live within 35 miles of the armistice line.”

So what about those people ? Collateral damage well justified before North Korea can develop weapon capable of hitting real people ?

Those are military exercises for defense on South Korea land. We never went in to North Korea to exercise war. Since there is a worry of war we prepare for the worst case scenario. In recent military exercises we have been preparing for war as lots of threats of nuclear war have been coming from North Korea.

This is the problem with war being fought thousands of miles away against an enemy that can't punch back. People aren't affected by their decisions and actions in the same way fighting against a neighbour would.

The world stood still when the Boston bombing happened and compared to some of the things Western forces have done, it was nothing. At the very least it should serve as perspective.

War is never good, it is hell, but at times a necessary evil, when facing a greater evil. I really do hope there is a way of inflicting as little damage as possible or stopping their aggressive attacks preemptively. I wish things were different, but they are what they are. I wish other people in the world could understand Americans better, see us in a better light, but propaganda machines are relentless in all countries.

He is just a blowhard. Trump escalates it by trying to compare button sizes.

It isn't propaganda to watch a country cause instability in entire regions from the safety of their own borders.

The American people are largely unaware of the type of horror they inflict on others by buying in to this nonsense.
