France attack: Three stabbed to death in 'Islamist terrorist attack'
Notre Dame basilica in Nice. Knife attack by apparent Islamist.

President Emmanuel Macron denounced the "Islamist terrorist attack" at the Notre-Dame basilica after visiting the scene in the southern city.

One elderly victim who was praying was "virtually beheaded". Another woman and a man also died. A suspect was shot and detained shortly afterwards.

Not sure how France finds its way through this. Life and death ideologies like radical Islam are really pernicious and seem to have an indelible appeal to lost people.

Honestly, I tried to look up what "virtually beheaded" was and all I got was references to this story.
Caught my eye too. Maybe its how we safely do beheadings in the covid era?

OK. Now that we got that^ cleared up, I am going to wonder if Islam is really compatible with the values of a secular republic. On the one hand, there are millions of Muslims who seem to get along just fine in France. On the other, there seem to be problematic elements in the very DNA - the sacred scriptures - of Islam, to which devout discontents seem to gravitate again and again.

Still better than secularism.

Believing its good to kill innocent people in the name of God is better than secularism? Somehow, I don't think you've seriously contemplated the implications of the above statement.

I understand that some people like you would prefer to see France an Islamic rather than secular state. Hoping you all are in the minority tho.

Ignorance. The idea that secularism reduces religious violence is in itself errant, but that is the claim that secularism makes of itself. As Dr. Cavanaugh wrote, "The liturgy of secularism is torture." The twin sacraments of Secularism are infanticide and sodomy.

That's just unsubstantiated and unjustified rhetoric.

French Middle School teacher Samuel Paty, in the name of "freedom of speech", showed cartoons in a radical left-wing (according to Wikipedia) "Charlie Hebdo" magazine ridiculing the Islamic Prophet Muhammad in intentionally humiliating ways.

Having no interest in provoking situations further, extremely heated emotionally charged rhetoric does apparently abound:
