Do you believe there is a difference between how God interacted with people in the Bible vs now days?

For example God spoke to Abraham and promised the promise land to him and his descendants.
Do you think God speaks to us in the same way?
Do you think God still speaks to us and promises certain things to come in the future?

I know its a rather broad question. Feel free to take it in any direction you think fits.

As far as I can tell, there is a certain way that God reveal's Himself to people where this is essentially no doubt it is God ... whether He is speaking, or doing something specific, etc. You may not have the right word for Him, but He is who He is, and in my experience, ANYONE can recognize Him in that manner. Doesn't matter which religion you are, what your personal belief system is, atheist, Zeus worshipper, whatever. It is as though there is an instinctual response to the Creator, as though He truly is the Alpha, and somehow we know this and it is revealed. In the specific ways you mentioned above, yes I believe God still speaks to people in those manners because I can think of modern examples and personal accounts.

Likewise, the Holy Spirit can move upon people in such a way that it is undeniable that SOMETHING is effecting them. Again, I've seen all walks of life respond to the Holy Spirit, regardless of their level of belief or lack of it, even atheists. Similarly, they may have not had the words for the Holy Spirit, but they acknowledged something powerful and spiritual was present and effecting them, the situations, etc.

Other spirits can reveal themselves (which I don't believe are God) in certain ways and it can be discerned by people who are used to interacting with spirits and discerning them. Sometimes these spirits will even identify themselves. Again, regardless of your walk of life, in my experience pretty much anyone is able to at least acknowledge these spirits. Discerning more details about them may differ from person to person however. Also, typically the atheist does not acknowledge these spirits in my experience, and I may argue that most of them are unable to, and thus I can see why most claim there is no such thing as supernatural beings. I believe these types of spirits often confuse most believers who recognize they are spirits and different from the "norm", but can't decide whether these spirits are God, the Holy Spirit, angels, etc or not lol. There may be multiple reasons for this confusion amongst those who believe. When meeting, or interacting with spiritual beings who are different from us, it can be easy to see why a person may confuse such a being with being either a "god", or God Himself without many points of reference.

I believe the most confusing "Being" for people to identify is Jesus and other children of God, actually. From the scriptures this rings true, and in my experience it still rings true today. I believe that the Lord can be in a situation and you not even realize it. Same as His brethren ... it may not always be obvious whom the Children of the Kingdom are to everyone. I also think there are multiple reasons why this is so, as I can think of a variety of scriptural instances where there was confusion even amongst those whom walked with Him Jesus before and immediately after His crucifixion.

In the old days, God spoke through prophets and in a variety of ways, now, in the New testament, God only speaks through Christ. For Christ is God himself come to earth.
In the past God spoke to our ancestors through the prophets at many times and in various ways, but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed heir of all things, and through whom also he made the universe. The Son is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of his being, sustaining all things by his powerful word. After he had provided purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty in heaven. (Hebrew 1:1-3)
He spoke to us directly in the past, but now after ascension, he speaks only to those who believe Him. In addition to this, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father left for us to will speak and counsel us during these dark times.
Before long, the world will not see me anymore, but you will see me. Because I live, you also will live. On that day you will realize that I am in my Father, and you are in me, and I am in you. (John 14:19-20)
But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you. (John 14:26)
In many ways, we are more fortunate than those prophets in the old testament, for though they spoke to God directly, they spoke to Him as an outsider. But now, we speak to the God who resides in our hearts, and for that we must be glad.

apparently, no advice is asked for, so i'll answer before they move the thread :)

1. i know that God does not change (Mal 3:6), but i think that the way men relate to God has changed over the ages. in Abraham's day, there were few distractions from God's creation; less influences to encourage satisfying the flesh - i think it would have been easier for him to hear God's still, small voice. today most people live in a man made world where food comes without digging in the ground or killing an animal - it comes prepared, wrapped, and even pre-cooked. almost nobody raises livestock; most people work in buildings. we're bombarded by advertisements everywhere we go that are crafted to encourage us to indulge our flesh; Abraham had few distractions like this. no wonder so few people hear from God today.

2. Yes; but the background noise is a lot louder today so most people don't hear Him. spend two days in the woods with no electronic devices, and you'll notice that your hearing of the noises in the woods becomes more accurate and more clearly defined. the noise of the woods is soothing, while the noise of the world tends toward tension. you have to find a quiet place and spend some time there regularly to hear a still, small voice.

3. He still speaks to us every time we face a decision; no matter how small or trivial it might seem to us. He leads, guides directs; tells you to slow down right before you meet a policeman in the other lane, etc. He reminds us of the promises He's already given us; we're His heirs and we get our inheritance as soon as we can receive it by faith - He has nothing left to give; when He gave us Jesus, he gave us Himself.

The key word to understanding this topic is "Dispensationalism."

Does good change the way he relates to people? It's a hot topic, browse this topic in the General Theology section and you'll see how hot it can get.

All I can say is, I'm glad these people aren't in the same physical space together.

God's given us a good "out," for this problem. So you can avoid frying your brain thinking about it.

God says - I alone am the judge. You are to judge not...

But just to consider the idea for a moment. Take Noah. Noah as far as I'm aware won't be saved because he believed in Christ. Christ says he came not to save the righteous, but to bring sinners to repentance. This obviously begs the question - Who are these righteous?

Now obviously they couldn't be perfect people, there was only one. God labeled Job a righteous man for example but we know he wasn't perfect. And as far as I'm aware he didn't believe in Christ.

Some people suggest these were folks who looked forward to the promise of a Messiah... mmm maybe.

I get the feeling Christ will offer the gospel to whoever he pleases. Since he knows all things and the true heart of a person, then it's not for me to question such a thing.

God left us the Holy Spirit. We have the scriptures and that's always where your base should be. The teaching there are as relevant for wisdom today as they have always been. However the True Christian also has the indwelling of the Holy Spirit. A dynamic wisdom, that can adapt to every situation in every time, in every place.

As the guy says above here. Practice learning to hear the still quiet voice. Always cross reference with scripture though. The scripture should be internalised in you so that you know the deceptions of the enemy and can recognise without doubt, the voice of the Lord.

I believe that YHWh, aka God "changes not." Yes, He does speak to people today just as clearly as He spoke to Abraham, in various ways. I believe there are, for example, words of knowledge and words of wisdom just as the "New" Testament describes.

Just one little example. Yesterday I was having problems with a graphic art program getting started. While I was away from the computer the word "boot" was given to me. I was clueless as to what that could possibly mean, which has often, initially, been the case.

Well, I searched on the internet for others who had experienced the same problem I was, and knew the solution. Someone had the same problem alright and several people responded with lengthy "Go here, do this, do that..." responses that I, not being very computer savvy, didn't even understand!

Then I noticed one short little post that said, "Just hold the shift key when you boot the Painter program." I knew that simple answer was the right one and sure enough it did work!

Countless people hear from our Heavenly Father and His Son. I suspect you may be one due to your Q.

Praying you will live your life in close communication with Them.
