A third party might rise to the fore, but it won't be in this election. Stein and Johnson aren't better candidates for president than the two we already have.

But let's say that you had a viable third-party candidate. There are three things that can happen:

1. The candidate takes votes mostly from either the Republicans or the Democrats. The other large party would win because the vote would be split.
2. The candidate takes votes equally from both major parties. The House would decide who becomes president because no single party would have a majority of electoral votes.
3. The candidate wins by a landslide.

Number 3 is the only real option for a third-party win. When a third-party candidate is fielded who can win in a landslide, then we can start taking third-party candidates seriously.

Would having to choose between Stalin or Hitler really be an authentic choice?
It is kind of like choosing between being raped to death or being tortured to death.

The Christian response can never be voting for the lesser of two evils. Rather the choice is for the lessening of evil.

And now, with the choices being between HRC and the Donald, well, good luck with that. Perhaps the best choice would now be to concentrate on limiting the evil that either of these two will do but voting in their opposite on the Congressional, State and local levels.

The American system has been designed with those kinds of checks and balances in mind.

It's actually nothing at all like either of those things.

To me it is.
Choosing either Hitler or Stalin would mean choosing the death and destruction and torture of millions.
And it is not just me. History bears that out.
