If the Bible is not inerrant, which parts are not true? Can we trust the end time prophecies?

We teamed up with Faith Counseling. Can they help you today?

I don't think we are allowed to say all that we think in this sub.

The bible as we know it has been compiled by humans - humans who have determined what information is spiritually profitable for other humans. If you appreciate this philosophy, then the canonical text is THE text for you.

However, considering in the canon one of the Redeemer's disciples said that the entire world library cannot hold the Words and teachings of the redeemer, why are most New Testament books not from Him? For that matter, why aren't most of testament books not from Him?

We are continuously being lied to on every front - to hide the fact that the god of this world is a poor facsimile of the real Father who is the Most High and above all - of spirit, not material (which is derived from spirit). I wouldn't trust anything except the spirit of the Most High - and as you said before take a firm stand FOR the Most High, and inquire of Him the truth and a way for clarity.

Humans lie, cheat, steal and murder for fun; we aren't to be trusted (especially in something as lucrative as end times - for churches, government, families, etc.)

I agree with most of your reply. But,can we trust end times prophecies as they are presented in the scriptures? Yes men do lie, but God is true and cannot lie.

Hi yes it is and you can trust the prophecies as even the promise of being raised from the dead and delivered from hell to eternal life is prophetic and certain. The history of the Bible including things like creation the flood, tower of Babel, Sodom and all have been proven accurate. The LORD tells us He has proclaimed the end from the beginning and He alone can do so. The argument is often over how to interpret them and I can tell you the lens to see them through is in the plain sense makes sense seek no other sense. God has given many specific details into what will happen and the main camps are divided by which lens they see things through. There is the allegorical lens, the historical lens which says all prophecy is mostly fulfilled and the literal lens which is anticipating the events relating to the tribulation and kingdom of God as future.

The Word of The Most High is a Living Entity.

Texts are compiled by men, and then called the word of the god of their allegiance. If you have read the Book of Enoch, you will remember that there were several angels responsible for teaching us how to write and the deceptive power of ink (contracts) in the first place. Couple this with the fact that there is a false god running around the known universe pretending to be the Most High - absolutely "prophecy" can be altered and manipulated.

This is where the Holy Spirit, and Comforter comes in. We who seek the truth will find it, because it was the Most High and Spirit of Truth who put it in us to seek the truth in the first place! This is why even the so-called ecumenical conspiracies and lies from this fake god won't prevent anyone who is supposed to be with Him from being with Him. He has chosen us from the foundations before the universe as we know it (and, before the fake god masquerading as a real one in our material universe). That is why "no one can snatch one out of His hand..." they never left His hand, and He is true divinity, so no one is capable of taking one of His. Prophecy is a spiritual phenomenon, and He will give us the Truth as long as we align to Him in repentance, obedience and faith.

Prophecies can be open to interpretation - which may be part of the assault in how it has been compiled. There are equal numbers of Christian denomination as there are interpretations for one alleged prophecy - and then some. That is why you have to trust your Father - who is not a god, or an entity, or a material entity (but, it is The Superior Spirit that no one has seen, whose Image is the Word of God Himself).

I think many are distracted by things the Lord hasn’t called us to do or focus on. This removes our attention from its rightful place and the kingdom work we’ve been assigned.

“Who knows whether you have not come to the kingdom for such a time as this?”Esther 4:14

God has called us to today. Not yesterday or the end times. We’re needed right now. The biblical support for end times fixation does not exist.

“You do not know what tomorrow will bring. What is your life? For you are a mist that appears for a little time and then vanishes. Instead you ought to say, “If the Lord wills, we will live and do this or that.”James 4:14-15

Tomorrow is out of our hands. I rest in Paul’s words.

“For I decided to know nothing among you except Jesus Christ and him crucified.”1 Corinthians 2:2

All the churning and debates return to the same point. We don’t know and won’t know until He reveals it.

In Mark chapter 13, 2 time periods are prophesied about, the first of which is initially addressed this way:

1 As Jesus was leaving the temple, one of his disciples said to him, “Look, Teacher! What massive stones! What magnificent buildings!”

2 “Do you see all these great buildings?” replied Jesus. “Not one stone here will be left on another; every one will be thrown down.”

And continuing then later on the mount, they ask Him more details, and so then the rest of Mark chapter 13, which includes a 2nd time period, the end times: Mark 13 NIV

But for that earlier time the prophesy of the destruction of the temple, which we can know historically happened in August 70 AD: That no two stones would be left standing on each other.

But the mainstream view subject to plenty of critical examination arrives as this conclusion as to when Mark was written down:

"Mark probably dates from AD 66–70."
    Gospel of Mark - Wikipedia

To me the most significant thing though about the accuracy of Mark is instead a different aspect --

Statistically due to human life span distribution, we can understand that this kind of time range implies with mathematical certainty (anyone please ask that wants more detail) that when Mark was written down, there were still living eye witnesses to Christ, who had heard His words personally, first hand -- still available when Mark was written down. Some small portion would still be living at that time, about 35 years later, who had been youthful when He preached in person and thousands came to listen.

@Brian Mcnamee [email protected] thank you both for your replies. But can I get a yes or a no. There is so much disagreement on the subject of inerrantcy that I do not now who believes what on these forums.

So why do we even have the Bible? Why do we have the prophecies?

You mentioned the end time prophesies in particular though? Please see post #7 about Mark chapter 13 (or Matthew ch 24 or Luke ch 21), and then consider: while 2 time periods are mixed together in these foretelling to us, we can be certain that every last thing He says will happen will happen.

That's significant, because many believers will end up very disturbed by those events when they come, and then it would be best for them to understand more from the gospels.

I have run into quite a few of them lately.
OK answer me this. The words recorded in the NT as uttered by Lord Jesus, do you believe He actually uttered all of them?

hi I gave you a yes

I can tell you if you cut and paste everything that is written about the end and assemble them like related jig saw pieces and compare scripture with scripture all passages will be congruent when they are aligned and they will be fulfilled.

Totally. And for more than just 1 reason. A somewhat less common kind of reason I also have: is that I at one time was more skeptical about the correctness of things He said, and so I very extensively tested things He said. After years and a variety of situations and comparing with competing ideas, I had to admit I could not find anything He said that in these accounts to be false, but instead fully true by repeated verification, and that was often a surprise to me in those days. I was often shocked, even though I'd taken a leap of faith, I was still very surprised when it all worked exactly as He says in the accounts, perfectly. I was just stunned at times.

My faith isn’t rooted in the bible. It’s forged in the Living God. Knowing Him and relating to Him provides a peace that exceeds fears or debates.

I have never posed the question you’ve presented. I don’t need to know everything. My aim is to fulfill the mission He placed me on earth to perform.

You cannot apply a finite mind to holy writ and expect to get everything right. You’re not on His sphere or frequency. And when you grasp the littleness of yourself in relation to His magnificence.

The question is ridiculous. It’s unfathomable. It doesn’t matter. :)

I personally believe that it is inerrant. While it may have been written by men it was inspired by God through the Holy Spirit, and God is perfect.

As for the prophesies I think it would be a bit short sighted to not trust the end time prophesies. They were a revelation to St. John the Theologian, and doubtfully by chance. To not trust the end times prophesies would be similar to not trusting the Prophets who foretold of Christs' coming, and we well see how those prophesies turned out. He came for our salvation according to the Prophets just as they foretold.

So, I personally believe the Book of Revelation to be true though it's interpretation is a whole other issue.

Bella, don't call people's questions ridiculous or unfathomable, that is rude. So how did you get to know the "Living God" ?How were you introduced to Him? How do you know what your mission is?

I’m confused. You sought my opinion and I’ve answered. At no point were you personally named in my response. If I feel it’s unfathomable to me that’s acceptable. Because you asked. You may disagree with my conclusion and that’s okay. But altering my vernacular is not an option. I assumed it was evident that was in reference to the previous paragraph. I’ve said all I plan to. :)

I cannot provide my answer in this sub forum, I don't think (that should give you my answer). All the details I mentioned before are the why.
